Hola
As I will now be doing the northern route I am going for a look at Oviedo first today by bus for a look. , from Villaviciosa and will then take a bus back to meet the Norte at Aviles. Cicerone guide shows stage Aviles to Soto de Luna as 39k. I know I won't be able to do that much, Would you have any stage breakups or hotels stops even the 2nd going short way past would be fine

Very much appreciate your input.

Annie , there are only 3 stops possible unless you do the 40km and its not on mate.

1 Santiago del Monte has Hotel Cristal , thats 13km
2 El Pito has 2 hotels , Hotel Alvaro and Casa Rural Casona Selgas , thats at the 24 km mark.
Up and down this section , its moderate , not easy.
3 Cudillero has 100's of everything you need....but you son't want a 30km day.

Keep safe
David

Halfway between Aviles and Soto de Luiña two shelters.

One is in Era, shortly before Muros de Nalón. It's called Casa Carmina. It opened this year so it is very new and is glued to the road.

The other is the Bocamar albergue in San Esteban de Pravia. The good thing about this hostel is that the next day can be part of the way by a Coastal Path.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Ta David. So I have a choice.
Will leave Oviedo shortly to return to Aviles
I have walked thru a fair portion of town and did the tour of the cathedral of San Salvador de Oviedo

Brings balance back to my Camino

Leaving the cathedral I met Agawa (a fellow pilgrim ) from Japan who had just walked in. It was lovely and timely !

There is a nice hotel (Marino) above the beach in El Rellayo. I posted a picture of the beach from my room on some Norte thread. It was 30 euro's with breakfast. A full breakfast. Dinner was a bit expensive but the fish was great along with the ice cream Sundae.

Ultreya,
Joe

Where is San Esteban de Pravia? I can't see it in my guide - the Cicerone guide by L Perazzoli and D Whitson? Thanks
Mary

Is it is a kilometer away from the camino. Then I do a sketch for you to see. In the picture of my signature, it is the people that you see to the left of the river at the end.

Soto del Barco Once passed, the river is crossed by a bridge. After crossing, about 200 meters there is a turnoff to the right that tells San Esteban. Rarely does not appear in the guide because until recently it was the only hostel that I had to split the Avilés-Soto de Luiña stage two. This hostel is fine if you want to go the next day to the coastal path El Pito. If you're not going on the coastal path, then you better Casa Carmina, because you do not have to leave the road to get to the hostel.

I think it is right before you turn off to San Esteban where the sweetest man stopped my friend and myself. He wanted to talk to pilgrims ...
If you see him he was a love!...I would not be suprised if he waits for them to pass thru...

If it is who I think he lives there and the house just past the bridge.

Thank you for this direction and advice. It will be a while before I get to Aviles but it's nice to know it's possible to break the journey and that there are always helpful people around. In Bilbao today taking a rest day. Hope to see the Guggenheim. Trouble with a rest day is trying not to walk too much and yet see everything.

The helpful man was there. He gives you a short cut !

I was with two french people which is why I went to San Estoban. (The signs there at the place appear to have the 'de pravia' part painted out

It us not we way marked in and out
I left following coastal with a Spanish lady (Begonia from Bilbao !).
I ended up going my own way from midday to Soto de Luina . I beat the storm by doing so. I did not stay in the Alburge that night but in Hostal Paulina which was great.

Also Mendi . I met an hombre named Juan Carlos Also from Bilbao.

That's because people want to remove the tagline of Pravia the names of their villages.
Until less than 200 years ago, and Muros de Nalón Soto del Barco councils belonged to Pravia, so many of its villages still retain Pravia on your behalf, for example, Riberas de Pravia, San Esteban de Pravia. Even Muros de Nalón, formerly called Muros de Pravia.
