Weather is of course quite unpredictable and can catch us all out at times.

I tend to glance at a weather app whilst walking such as The Weather Channel.
One of those home screen widgets.
Handy to see what the weather will be like in the coming days, sunrise times etc etc.
I've always found it great for short term forecasts.

But for Planning?

Being the planning 'Nerd' that I am, I use them extensively when planning to walk a new route.
Particularly, I look at the 'historical' weather for a selected period, on a 'month' view, noting the temperatures and precipitation.
It helps to provide a 'fighting chance' at encountering our preferred walking conditions.

I noted recently though, that not many apps provide an easy/reliable view of historical weather.
One that I liked, is now a bit 'hit and miss' with loading the historical weather data.
It seems to for some locations, but not others, and then for some years but not others.

Here are some that I have used in the past or just found. Though I may have missed some features.

This is not bad for looking at weather history, but does not show precipitation (rain)

This used to be my 'go to' but maybe because it is so 'bloated' with adverts it's a bit hit and miss loading the data.

This one is quite good for pinpoint stuff like mountain passes, but doesn't seem to show history.

This one takes a more regional 'weather map. point of view. Not that useful.

This one seems quite good but only goes back a year. Maybe there is a subscription option?

This one I've used to check the top of the mountain when leaving from St Jean. But doesn't seem to have history.

So, what's your favourite weather app for 'planning'?
And have you found a good one for checking historical weather over a number of years?

I'm sure more by luck than judgement, last year I managed in a 60 day Camino to get about 3-4 hours of rain and no days above 25C. I wish I was as lucky in the Lottery!!

Planning is fun, though must not be taken too seriously so as to avoid disappointment

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
I use live radar and a bit of weather knowledge to predict the next 24-48 hrs for asset protection

"Windy" which gives world wide maps

There is a deep menu that gives more info, cape index,a not "very"accurate rain prediction tool
I use 2 for chasing tornadoes
One "windy" for the macro view and "radarscope" which is states oriented but does have limited radar sites in france and spain ,germany
FWIW.
a screen shot of split screen weather app/live map app used for chasing..
