I booked an Albergue/hostel in Navarrete but was told in the Albergue I am staying now that the place had a problem with bedbugs. Has anyone encountered any bedbugs in any of the Albergues/hostels in Navarrete very recently? Thank you for your info already. bon Camino hopefully without the dreaded bugs

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
If you heard, from a reliable source hopefully, that an albergue has recently suffered from bed bugs - avoid it like the pest ;-) Buen Camino, SY
I heard it from the people who run the Albergue I'm staying in. Competition can do funny things just wanted to make sure . thanks

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
Did they advise you against staying there? In a place that "had" a problem (past tense)?

Any place can have a problem. It's the response that matters.

How far are you from Navarrete? in what sense are these competitors?

Bedbugs don't stay in one albergue. Like this poster said, see if you can find out if they treated the place after reports. Otherwise, find out all the names of everybody who stayed there and find out where they stayed next and avoid those places. ;)

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

sorted! It turns out that the people from the Albergue I was staying in have an interest in the one they told me to book. Which is fine but not at the cost of bad mouthing another Albergue that turns out to be a nicely run, good spirited welcoming and clean place for perrigrinos. commercialism hey!!

Train for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island March 16-19
Scary stuff. I didn't get attacked by bedbuds in pilgrims' albergues, I got them in a relatively posh hotel. Horrible experience.

Yup, chinches don't care about stars in a hotel rating ;-) Buen Camino sin Chinches, SY

I stayed two days at a small albergue as you come into town very small place. No problems there, but in Los Arcos the municipal albergue had problems. A guy came in in showerede took a nap and woke up with bites all over .

I got killed by Bed Bugs in Los Arcos and then again near Leon. Absolutely horrible. I spoke to many pilgrims who also got bitten badly. I also had pre-treated all my stuff with Pemetherin (or how ever u spell it).

I do want to finish the Camino (leon to Finistere) within the next year, but damn the nights are horrible.

I'm sorry to tell you the bed bugs are the new reality. 18 days on the Camino and five times my daughter has been eaten up by them. Possibly me too but I show no reaction. We have seen many legs on the Way that show the tale tell neat rows of bites and have heard others complain of itchy bites. And no they don't make a difference with the places, you won't escape them by staying away from municipal albergues. Before Camino our only experience with bedbugs was in an expensive Radison SAS hotel in Bruessels.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Yes it's horrible. I dreaded every night. The days were fantastic though!

I was fine until Arca which was a shame !!! And u was not even in a Albergue !!! Lovely place but just goes to show :( but other than that was lucky I guess ? Good luck Xxx

I was bitten two times along my camino last fall. I had a silk liner that i slept in, inside my sleeping bag so have NO idea how they bit me up. I guess they must have crawled in from the top, crawled down to my legs (the only part of me that was bitten) and crawled back out again, from the top?? The very thought just grosses me out!! But alas....I did survive. We went to the ferreteria (hardware store) and bought chinchos spray and also to the farmacia to get some anti-histamine. We washed all my stuff in hot water and dried it in a hot dryer, (I wore my fiances clothing while I did this - Lol. Might I add, he did NOT get bitten once which leads me to believe those bugs are choosy with who they decide to bite) and sprayed my pack and fanny pack and all my books, etc..and all was okay after this. The strangest thing is you don't feel it when they bite you, and apparently when they bite you, they are kind enough to provide their own anesthetic and numbing agent. Considerate little bugs, them. :)

Buen Camino, all!!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

so you p retreated and still got bitten? Use the same product and saturated sleeping bag and back pack even my boots and was not bitten..seems odd to me Pemetherin is excellent.
