Bed bugs in Hotel Astur Plaza in Astorga 21st of August ..my first night on the camino stayed in the Astur Plaza Hotel after flying into the Madrid that day & bussing to Astorga..woke the next day to find two large bed bugs on my pillow after breakfast..complained to the hotel reception and the girl at the reception had the audacity to suggest I was responsible even after I showed her my itinerary showing my flight into Madrid the day before...say that some non pilgrims had stayed in 2 nights before & some of my clothes were used so I was lying when I said it was a fault with the hotel...eventually got a 50% refund. Some of clothes of course shrunk in the dryer. Cleaned out my pack with alcohol & bug spray..hope that's enough. I appreciate that bed bugs are on the rise and could happen anywhere but it was the attitude that was so disheartening. Especially since a lot of the clientele I imagine are pilgrims. Anyway steer clear!

Sorry to hear of your experience with the now ubiquitous bed bugs. In the unlikely event you encounter them again, if your are in an Albergue, you will find the hospitalero/a much more receptive to solve the problem without blaming that the front desk of a big hotel.
If you can find permethrin, and treat your pack etc, you can be fairly sure that you will not act as a carrier. Also check for signs on each and every bed you are assigned to--many other threads with more details.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
