Following the horrors of bed bugs at the Paris Olympics, I saw this today.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I think that’s also known as diatomaceous earth; which is indeed used for (amongst other things) controlling mites and similar insects in chicken coops.

HtD (former assistant chicken keeper.)

I didn't know that you could use diatomaceous Earth against bed bugs but it doesn't surprise me. I too used it with my chickens, it's wonderful stuff, I never had any mite issues. Humans can actually consume it, not only is it not negative it's (supposedly) good for us. The person I used to buy it from used it to treat her high cholesterol levels and apparently it's also good against constipation.

Ideal pocket guides for during and after your Camino. Each weighs just 40g (1.4 oz).
Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Yes, diatomaceous earth has this effect on bedbugs. How does that translate into being useful on the Camino?
ON camino, not at all. Except of course if working as Hospitaleros, which some of the forum members do.
Should we however be unfortunate enough to bring a family of the little b***** home with us, (whether from actually on camino or in transit) it beats the heck out of bombing the place with artificial chemicals.

At Gite Poudally near Mas de Vers on the Le Puy route I was given an atomiser type intrument to puff 'sea shell' powder' on my sleeping bag - great gite 400m off path with purpose built accommodation off an old house. Fantastic meal, restaurant quality.

I hope that they gave you a mask to use so that you didn't inhale it!

Not exactly Camino related, but I was flabbergasted by this story of a hiker that was lost for 24 hours who ignored rescuers' calls because 'they didn't recognize the number'...
