Baztan in Sept 2012

I and my friend left Bayonne for the Baztan on 13 September. This route is an undiscovered jewel to most non French. Six days through the Basque countryside with stunning views. My friend and I encountered NO OTHER pilgrims in six days. We were the only ones in the Albergues! We picked up the camino Frances in Pamplona. I am in Leon today (9 Oct) and will continue on to Santiago tomorrow
It can take about 6 days, 5 if you push it but who wants to!.Many thanks to the friends of the Baztan for keeping this Way maintained!

Hi, majorspydr,
Seems that everyone who walks on this route says exactly the same thing. I understand why many prefer to start in Roncesvalles or St. Jean, but for those who are repeat camino offenders, I think this is a nice alternative. I have been in that part of the Pais Vasco but never on this trail and know what a beautiful place it is.

BTW, if you used the guide that I translated from Spanish into English, could you let me know if there are updates/corrections, etc? Though I'm confident in my language ability, since I don't know the route, having comments from someone who actually walked it would be enormouslyl helpful. I'll be happy to update with your suggestions. camino-baztan/topic12765.html

Buen camino to you! Laurie

Hola,
I am thinking of walking the Baztan this September. I'll be solo, only speak English, I'd appreciate your opinion, having doubts if I should walk the Baztan or just start at st. Jean. I started at st Jean in 2013, thought the Baztan would add some variety. I'd appreciate your thoughts
Respectfully
Cliff
