The French railroad SNCF has announced today that from 3 June through 28 June BUSES will replace trains on the TER line 62 route which runs from Bayonne to SJPdP.

Tickets purchased earlier for the train are still usable on the buses. For those without rr tickets new tickets for the buses can be purchased in the Bayonne railroad station ticket office in the station lobby. The price to SJPdP is roughly 10 euros. There are no reserved seats.

The buses will depart from the parking area in front of the Bayonne station.

Please don't panic over this change. The Gare SNCF in Bayonne is small and easily navigated. The staff is helpful and used to dealing with throngs of pilgrims as well as vacationers. They will help you find your way. The station cafe boasts many handy plugs for recharging your computer or smartphone; relax and have a drink.

Bon Voyage and Buen Camino,

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Thanks for the update! Luckily I'll be taking that train on the 1st of June. :)

Thanks for the update, Margaret. I was looking forward to the train segment but will miss it for my departure on June 8th. Grerat to have the information in advance! buen Camino!

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Thanks you very much for that. ASTI is now a bus journey, does this add extra time onto the journey to St Jean in comparison to the train journey (which is about 1hr, 20mins). I would like to know as I would have to give my hostel in St Jean an e.t.a. Thanks.

Irishmancamino,

No. The travel time by bus from Bayonne to SJPdP is roughly the SAME as the travel time by the TER line 62 train which will not be operating from June3 through June 28 inclusive. Of course there might be heavy road traffic.

During the past 8 years on several of my caminos the bus has been in service instead of the TER. There were no problems; all went smoothly. When the bus was timed to depart Bayonne following the arrival of a TGV train the driver would always wait to MAKE CERTAIN that any arriving passenger desiring the bus would have plenty of time to make that connection.

Bon Voyage,

MMargaret Meredith

I am glad they give a few minutes, there are 14 minutes scheduled between my arrival via train and departure via bus.
