Thinking of making my first walk in September and it looks like Barcelona will be my best entry from the west coast of the USA. Any thoughts on the best means of getting to Leon from Barcelona (and return to Barcelona from Santiago)?
There are 2 or 3 direct trains each day (and one overnight) from Barcelona Sants station to Leon each day, taking slightly over 7 hours. www.renfe.es
Last time I took a Vueling flight from Santiago back to Barcelona and it was about as comfortable and enjoyable as a cattle truck. Next time I'll definitely take the 8.42am train which gets to Barca at 21.05, and which l think will be a much better way of "decompressing" after the camino - and the train follows bits of the Francés all the way to Pamplona.
