Backpack weight

Time of past OR future Camino

Hi all. I will soon (in a few weeks) leave home for the CF. I have tried to pack lightweight. I changed from my Osprey Talon 31L bought in 2017 for the Portugese camino to an Osprey Tempest 24L after trying several other more lightweight backpacks. To my surprise the 24L is somewhat more heavier than the 31L. Anyone who know why? Not a big issue, just curious. Both are nice backpacks. Buen camino

for some, like me, having light and durable equipment is the way to keeping overall weight within bounds.

My research before my start in 2016 was to buy Zpacks tent and 35 litre pack.

In total about 1.5 kg for the two.

This compared with about double the weight for two similar items purchased locally.

Plus, for me, the features of the pack (trapeze back, side and back pockets) were those I was used to when tramping in the nearby Tararua Range of my youth.

Expensive, and lasted about 6,000 km (? 4,000 miles) before replacing a year ago.

Later this week will restart my Via Franxigena with a total weight of about 7 kg including 1 litre of water, layers for warmth, enough gadgets to communicate with and a personal locator beacon.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

That is interesting. The Osprey website suggests that the Tempest 24 is a little over 100gm lighter than the Talon 31. It appears that there are design differences, but the same materials appear to have been used for both packs. The major differences would seem to me to add weight to the Talon 31, with features like the top pocket requiring more material. Why your Tempest pack is heavier does seem out of line with what one might expect.
