A new DANA confirmed in Spain: the options for it to bring torrential rains to the different communities
The release of a DANA will lead to a new episode of heavy rains on the Mediterranean slope. Although rainfall may be beneficial in some areas, there will be a risk of torrential showers in particularly vulnerable regions.

The areas affected will be along the Mediterranean coast according to the report. If you are in Spain and in any doubt, ask a local person e.g. the hospitalero of your albergue or the staff in your hotel.

DANA means Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos.

In English it seems to be called a cut-off low.

Cut-off low

The cut-off low is a cold low (depression) in mid-latitudes (occasionally almost in subtropical latitudes) where air of polar origin is cut off from the main subpolar belt of low pressure and cold air, the normal track of depressions.

A cut-off low usually begins as a trough in the upper-air flow, which becomes a closed circulation and then extends down to the surface. Also known as closed low or cold pool. A cut-off low is marked by more or less concentric isotherms around the core of the low.

Cut-off lows are most frequent in periods of low index circulation . Sometimes a cut-off low occurs with a cut-off high over the higher latitudes, typically in blocking situations. Such slow-moving lows are associated with unsettled weather and, in summer, with thunderstorms.

To follow up my post from the other day... Valencia is orange and red alert tomorrow and Wednesday for rain (again). And I would continue to advise people against the Camino Levant. 13 days on and we are still without metro and the chaos on the roads is unbelievable. The authorities hope to start opening some at the end of this week and the AVE Madrid -Valencia as well but all tickets are sold out. I include some photos of badly hit areas... It is not much fun traipsing through knee high mud
