Ian & Carol! Welcome to the list It's' a great experience.

I've been watching a youtube video of a Camino Frances trip from St Jean to Santiago in January 2013 , Young couple and their baby . I think it's the most instructional video for anyone starting their first Camino. The first part starts in St Jean on a cold rainy day and ends in Vacarlos . Heres the link

There are separate videos for each of their days . I really recommend this as a primer . You learn from them what not to do such as carrying a 70 lb backpack to wearing $30 boots purchased from Tesco . There's also some very good insight on their philosophy of why they are walking . Take a minute and check it out ,, its worth it

Joe

Thank you for this @DeadFred.
I have watched the first 2 videos and find it incredulous that they did this in winter with a very small baby!!
I will definitely keep this in mind if and when we encounter any challenges along the way and try to remember to focus on what we have to be thankful for (as the mother aptly points out) rather than be consumed by the negatives.

I too arrive on the 7th and will begin walking on the 8th...not sure how far the first day at this point. Just returned from the doctor's office to have my knee x-rayed. It's testing me, I'm sure of it. I've run so many miles over the years and never had a single problem...arggg.

sdn8tiv Your now a list member ! btw if you are sporting a bum knee I would suggest Orisson as your day one end point . Buen Camino

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Oh, I feel your pain! I too, have been very active, don't run any more due to arthritis but do long walks and have been taking my pack. No problems until about 5 weeks ago when my knee started playing up. I had ITB surgery about 15 years ago (when I used to run) and its the same issue with the other knee now. My first thought was 'why now?' I am doing lots of stretching, strength building and channeling 'good karma'!! I arrive April 12 and start walking on the 13th and am also staying at Orisson - just in case. I'm a firm believer in the power of positive thought so I just keep telling myself 'it will be alright'. I hope everything goes well for you

Have Orisson accepted your booking as I have been told to phone the day before for the 5th April. Susan

Train for your next Camino on California's Santa Catalina Island, Oct 27 to Nov 2
Hi Susan, I have seen several posts saying the same thing. Yes, I have got a booking but I made it back in Nov/Dec, initially for April 14 but requested to change it to April 13 about 5-6 weeks ago. I had a fairly quick reply confirming that it was okay to change. I am wondering if they may be fully booked but are used to getting last minute cancellations?? Perhaps that's why they are telling people to call the day before. I think I would be calling each day for several days (maybe even weeks) before on the off chance that this is the case

Thanks Cathy, yes I might email them again as they said it was weather dependant. Hopefully will be clear. I want to break up the first day and also enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains. .Susan
