Chemin du Puy & Camino Francés (summer 2014), Chemin du Puy & Camino Francés (possible summer 2019)
Does anyone know of some useful apps to use along the camino, that can work offline? I'd especially like one that can track distance, elevation, speed, etc. Other types might be such as Miam Miam Dodo, maps, or anything else you can think of. I have an iPhone.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Which camino do you intend to hike?

Le Puy to Santiago

Perfect memento/gift in a presentation box. Engraving available, 25 character max.
MMDD for Le Puy to SJPP was a great resource for me. If you plan to have phone service even when "offline" in terms of internet access, it's more valuable still.

Is the app the same as the printed book?

MotionX GPS worked great for me on an iPhone 5. You can download all the terrain maps along your Camino, download the track for your Camino, and track your walk.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).

What do you mean by downloading the track for the Camino?

Various people have created tracks of the different Caminos and posted them on the Web. A track is the path you want to follow to stay on the Camino. If you download the track into MotionX GPS (a process which is a little complicated, but if I managed it you almost surely can as well, at least with a little of the help so generously provided on this forum), when you open up MotionX GPS you will see, on your map, where you are, and where the Camino is. If the two are not the same, you know you made a wrong turn. Or the track was wrong. The one I downloaded was very accurate; if it said I was on the Camino, I would shortly see a yellow arrow or scallop shell confirming this. A couple of times it showed alternative routes, and once or twice it showed a path on what was probably the Camino before a slight route change was handed down from whoever decided these things. But, with a little common sense, it was great to have the track display on the map. I'm going to do a Pilgrimage to Assisi next fall, and wish I could find tracks for that.

Will do. Where are you thinking of starting? Have you found a forum or other source on information on St. Francis treks?
