Another pilgrim killed by a car

Javier's Facebook page links to a news article describing how a Finnish pilgrim, 73 years old, was struck by a car and killed in Valenca do Minho, the town right on the border with Spain on the Camino Portugues. Very sad. Pilgrims be careful.

So sad to hear. That road is right by the Albergue São Teotónio and is fickle to cross. Cars sometimes come with high speed from the nearby highway exit.

While walking on roads safety rules are vital.

1. Walk on the left side of the road so you can see traffic coming close to you.

2. Walk in single file not side by side.

3. Do not use a phone, watch for traffic.

4. Do not use earbuds, listen for traffic.

There is a wide sidewalk and parking on both sides of the road. It must have happened when he crossed.
