Another newbie starting in SJPP end of September

Hi everyone!!

I apologise sincerely if all of the questions I'm about to blurt out in my slightly nervous/excited mind frame have been answered on this forum, ive been struggling a little bit sifting through all the fantastic info and tips on here.
I'll be staring the camino frances from SJPP at the end of September. I'll be arriving on the 29th at around 7pm and have booked accomodation just to be on the safe side. I'm hoping to start on the 30th, however have booked nothing from there on. Just curious as I have read from a lot of you that there has been a struggle to find places along the way, is it still the case at the end of September/October? I was under the impression I could just walk as far as my feet could take me and find somewhere to stay however I may be very naive haha. I have given myself 32 days to get to Santiago - hopefully enough time!

I'm a 27 year old aussie travelling solo, so any tips you have would be incredible thanks in advance!

The number of persons getting compostelas in October last year stayed above 1,000 per day until mid-month. Those pilgrims will have started in September. That is below the 2,000-2,500 per day in August. There should be a bed wherever you are, but if you stop walking late, you may have to visit more than one albergue.

I left last year on this day, September 20th and also took 32 days which included 2 days off in Burgos and Leon; the day off in Burgos was a must as my feet were worn out from the first two weeks. The day off in Leon was a luxury and not really necessary. I don't think you will need to book ahead but it is incredibly easy to do with booking.com so you have that as an option. Having at least 1 full day off may be good for recovery and the first couple of weeks are more difficult than one can perceive from the guidebooks. All the best.

A very useful post Emily. I learnt from the replies too as I am also a newbie arriving the same day, but I'm not starting until the Sunday giving myself a lazy Saturday to relax and get over jet lag x perth,

I'm yet to decide whether I'll be starting Saturday or Sunday. I have been in Italy for the last few weeks so Jet lag won't be the problem, it may be nerves and gathering my bearings! I'm sure we will cross paths, always nice to chat to an aussie when you are so far from home! Enjoy your last bit of preparation

We will have muchos forum members starting their camino on Saturday 30th and Sunday 1st, so, you will have plenty of company. Team Sailor [my wife and me] will start on Wednesday 27th, but we will see those starting up to a week later passing us at one point, so, if you see a couple walking slooooooooowly please stop and say hello. This question was also on my mind after reading the latest reports from CF. I’m starting a couple of days before you and was also planing/hoping to just walk as far as my feet would take me each day. I really don’t like the idea of the bed race or having to stop early each day just to be sure to get a bed.
