Joe and I began walking the Via de la Plata in 2009. We got as far as Fuente de Cantos.
In 2013, I walked as far as Cáceres before having to pop up to Pamplona to pick up my group.
This year, we found round trip tickets to Madrid for $450, so we decided to finish up the Via de la Plata and to spend our last week in Segovia for Semana Santa.

We leave for Madrid on March 4, 2020 and will bus or train down to Zafra to begin walking, covering the sections Joe missed that I have already walked.
We return home on April 15, 2020.

I'm going to TRY to add this to the calendar.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Yes, if you shop early and remain flexible, you can score some good deals. I just booked my r/t fare on Iberia from Miami for my month of volunteer work next summer.

I got a special promotional fare on Premium Economy. So, I can actually sleep on my way over.

This r/t fare was the same as another airline offered for regular economy. So, for me, it was a huge bargain. If I was intent on counting pennies, it is relative, I COULD have obtained a r/t economy ticket from Miami - Santiago for about $650.

So, start looking as soon as you nail down dates.

I booked with Iberia to fly from Birmingham UK to Seville (via Madrid) after Easter next year and much to my surprise I found the cheapest ticket combination was a special business class deal that was cheaper than economy?? The baggage allowance also covers the transport of my Bicycle for free which saves me another large addition on economy. Unfortunately the return from SdC is economy and it may be cheaper to send my bike back by Correos than Iberia.

You never know what you will find until you get cracking. One thing is certain, the closer you get to your planned departure date, the more expensive any airfare will be.

That is how their reservation computers are programmed to harvest as much money as possible for each seat. As departure date approaches, the fare continually escalates... that is baked into the computer programs.

The early bird... Don't forget to buy either a refundable or changeable ticket, and travel insurance, so you don't lose everything, just in case.

When some folks resist these add ons, I always reply that one should consider the total projected costs for your Camino, air, land, and accommodation, etc. If you come from afar like me, you are talking about USD 2,000 to 3,000 for a month traveling on Camino in Spain.

Things like buying travel insurance and paying to check a bag are usually miniscule cost drivers and are not worth the stress that not buying them upfront produces... at least IMHO.

Hope this helps.
