Altus poncho sizing question

Two questions I need help with. I am 5' 10" and 180lbs. I bought a Rick Steeves poncho which lasted for one wind and rain storm in Mobile and was destroyed...I then remembered some earlier advice about getting the good stuff.( no offense, Rick but your poncho is not the good stuff) What size in an Altus, I mean how do they fit? How hot do they get..etc BTW I will be begining my Camino in Oct 2 through early Nov. Help

If you are starting in St Jean Pied de Port at least 4 gear shops stock them and they are cheaper than online. All sizes available.

No problem. I bought one online before my camino which started on April 20th. We had 2 1/2 weeks of heavy rain with wind and I found the altus brilliant. I saw regular ponchos almost beat their owners to death in the wind. No problems with the altus except a bit of condensation.

Go loose so you get air underneath. The arms are elasticated at the wrist and the material doesn't breath so arms can get really sweaty unless you are walking very slowly indeed.

Standing around or taking it easy I use the arms of my Altus poncho but when really walking I keep my arms underneath, letting the sleeves hang empty - you can use a pole, hold onto rucksack straps, scratch areas needing scratching, keep your hands dry - works a treat.

But do go for loose, not tight (personal opinion of course)

Unless you are a petite, which you are not at 5'10" and 180#, you will want the L/XL. Altus has gone with just two sizes, and the S/M is pretty small! Trying one on, of course, is your best way to determine size.

My Altus has sleeves that adjust with velcro, not elastic. I think I would prefer the velcro.

He is not wearing an Altus so must be careful about scratching in public.
