It’s in Muros de Nalón, which is about 22 from Avilés. What made it especially nice was, since it was a short day, we could take a bus to the beautiful coastal village of Cudillero in the afternoon. That is a little detour well worth taking.
So, now I’ve scrolled through Gronze to see the albergues where I have stayed and liked, and see that a number also have private rooms.
I remember that the albergue I stayed in in La Caridad had private rooms, but I was in the albergue. One of our little group made dinner in the kitchen and a couple staying in private rooms ate with us — outside in a small private backyard, which was nice.

Albergue Savior in Lourenzá has private rooms and gets good reviews on Gronze.

One of my favorite albergues on the Norte was O Xistral. I stayed in the albergue part, which was spacious and uncrowded. But I see on Gronze that they have a private room, too. Good dinner, great hosts — a couple (one of whom is a veterinarian) that spent years remodeling this house and put a lot of love into it. There is a lot of private open space for relaxing.

If you take the coastal alternative from Santander, which I HIGHLY recommend, Boo de Piélagos is a good stop. I stayed in the albergue, but again see that Gronze shows private rooms as well.

I remembered thinking that the Albergue Castiellu looked nice when I walked through Pendueles (at least I think it was Pendueles). It gets good reviews on Gronze and it does have private rooms, so it might be worth a try.
Oops I almost forgot one of my favorites from the end of my 2021 camino when I went over from the Primitivo to the Norte on the Camiño Verde from Lugo. Abeiro da Loba. It’s about 6 flat kms beyond Sobrado dos Monxes.

The owner/hospitalero converted his grandparents’ home into an eco-albergue/lodge. In the middle of nowhere, in a wooded setting adjacent to a tiny village (no services). Meal wasn’t great but I was in a private room there and also saw that the albergue room was very very nice.
