Hello everyone,

I'm starting tomorrow (yikes!) and suddenly realize that there is quite a bit of confusing information about the location of the albergue in Bilbao. Where, precisely, is it located? (The same address looks like it's in very different places on different maps.)

I am flying into Bilbao and had planned to pick up a credencial and spend the night. Would it be smarter to bus to Portugalete and stay there instead? I also wasn't sure if the Portugalete albergue is open yet -- in various places it says that it opens on July 1st.

Thank you!

Hi Jena,
I'm not walking El Norte but I'm in Bilbao on a few days holidays.
Just been on an early morning stroll and found the municipal Albergue. Was just standing outside it a few minutes ago. Coming from the old town it's on the left (west) side of the river. Just before you get to the Zubiziri bridge or white bridge as it's better known turn left up Calle Isleta and it's facing you at the end of the street.
If you want to go to Portugalete it's about half an hour on the Metro.
Buen camino

Thanks a ton!

This is definitely not the one I as thinking of, but good to have a fallback.

With some luck, someone will answer the phone in Portugalete today. :) I can get there - just don't want to show up, find it closed, backtrack to Bilbao, and find all the beds taken.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

The Eroski guide has the Portugalete albergue closed until July fisrt. But there are pensiones, which is where I stayed, and not a bad idea fir the night after travelling. In Bilbao you have a number of albergues where you can stay, other than the muni, I remember walking past one on my way towards Portugalete.lots of options.

Stay in Bilbao. It is a much more interesting city.
