I'm sorry, going through my pictures, and just have to show the most disgusting disrespectful example I saw. Don't know if I want trash cans all the way like in a park, and - who would empty them? Just had to show the sad truth..

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.

Sorry, but a crumpled coke can on the pedestal of a mojone was the most disgusting and disrespectful littering you saw? You had a lucky Camino!

I’ve Ditch Pigged shit smeared underwear; panty-liners; broken Trainers; broken glass; half-eaten bocadillo; beer cans that could be carried when full but were too heavy when empty; little paper-roses in their thousands. There’s no need for yellow arrows on the Camino Frances. The little yellow or brown streaked paper-roses will get you to the Obradoiro even in the dark.

I hope you took that can to the nearest bin

Question , what was the "brown thing" on the can.? 🙏🏻

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
I believe that's what makes it disgusting! 💩
I hadn't noticed, but enlarging the photo I agree💩 and possibly that can has been there quite awhile. I doubt I would be putting that one in my pocket after all.Sometimes when I hike in wooded trails at home I occasionally see that an animal (squirrel or raccoon maybe?🤷) has made a similar "deposit" on a big rock. 😝

I'm sorry, @KariannNor, you've just lost me. I think your hand-wringing is over the top here, and you have now stepped past the point where any useful outrage is going to be generated to change other's behaviours. Not that I expect that most people here who read your post are likely to need their behaviour changed in this regard.

I cannot tell what is on top of the can, and I'm not sure that knowing would make much difference. Your initial suggestion that it is disgusting I can understand. And it is disrespectful of the environment and one's fellow walkers and locals to litter in this way. But a concrete majone is not some ancient stone. It is a block of concrete, occasionally with the metal markers left intact, some installed just a few years ago, by the Xunta in Galicia. It deserves respect, not as some sacred object, but for the practical waymarking of a camino route that informs all of us who walk past it that we are on the path, and where we should go next.

I think you can expect any argument based on attaching any more significance than that to be ridiculed, which will completely detract from any useful reminder that anyone might need that littering, whether it be discarded food and drink containers or our own excreta, is to be avoided personally, and discouraged in others.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Please delete this thread. I neither want any political discussion nor to be looked down upon because I find this disrespectful.
