Well, it's really crept up on me and I never even realised until this evening but... A year ago today I was setting out to Spain. I knew virtually nothing about the Camino, I didn't know there were different routes, I had no guide book, no maps and just the clothes I stood up it. I didn't even know where the start point was. But thanks to this forum (and, as I now know, to Ivar in particular for running the show) I at least knew where I could begin in the time that I had available and still make landfall in Santiago. So a big thank-you, as without this resource I'd probably be wandering around Spain now trying to find my way.
It's funny the impact that the Camino has on you, I've been living with the after effects far longer than it took to walk. There hasn't been a day gone by that I haven't thought about something that happened (and a big chunk of me that wishes I'd kept going). It almost feels like life has kind of stood still for the last 12 months and that a part of me never really left. I guess I'm starting to sound like the people who never really got over Woodstock or the good Glastonbury years
There's a certain irony to today, 364 days ago something happened that made me say "**** it" and head out on the Camino literally the next day and strangely history is repeating itself, although I've spent my Camino credits for this year. Anyhow... I'm not really sure what the point of this post is other than to say what a great experience that the Camino is and that this forum has been. Without overstating it and getting all happy-clappy and sentimental, walking in a westward direction in Spain really is a magnificent invention.
As some ever-pragmatic Australians I met often said, thanks Jimmy!
