A Pobra 2023 - Municipal albergue — open July 2023

Join the Camino cleanup. Logroño to Burgos May 2025 & Astorga to OCebreiro in June
See this thread. Last news we had it was scheduled to open in March. This article from January 2023 suggests things are on track.

I’ve sent an email to the Ayuntamiento, and will post if I hear anything. Barring that option, I think your two choices are Salcedo or Barxa de Lor, with its lovey Pensión Pacita. Not as a good a split in terms of distance, but either place breaks up Quiroga to Monforte into two shorter stages.

Yes. I'm planning on walking the Invierno in July after serving as an hospitalero in Ponferrada. Really hope it is open by then. Will keep my eyes open for your updates.

I finally was able to connect with the Ayuntamiento. No one there has any idea when it will open, though they said they hoped it would be soon and to call back next month. Keep hope alive.
Thanks peregrina2000. Calling the ayuntamiento was above and beyond the call and very kind of you. Don't know if I said, but I'll be walking in early July after volunteering as an hospitalero at San Nicolas in Ponferrada the last half of June so I can follow up locally while I'm there and plenty of time to make a plan B.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

I have a cheap calling card for Spain and I don’t mind doing it at all. I’ll try again in a few weeks, but I am pretty sure this will make the regional news when it opens, so we should keep an eye out.

Wow, the thanks goes the other way. I hope there are plenty of you to take care of that huge place. I’ve heard stories from friends who have been there as hospitaleros and it is no easy task!

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Wow, this is absolutely great news. Though I do wonder whether it means Pensión Pacita will be able to (or want to) keep going.

Looking forward to hearing some first hand reports from the Invierno crowd!>

I am actually booked at PP because I heard so many good things about it. And I will stay their to support a consistent pension.

Both José Luis and his son Luis are very warm people, who take good care of pilgrims. I stayed there last October and really enjoyed the evening with them. Had a nice long chat, as we were the only guests that night.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
We were in Pobra de Brollón yesterday and opted for the newly reopened Pensión As Viñas, whose owners closed it when they retired years ago. Now the daughters have re- opened it, and they also manage the albergue.

Sandra took us on a tour of the albergue yesterday afternoon - spotless, high quality, comes with sheets, towel, and blanket. Two rooms, very spacious, 18 beds (9 bunks) each room. The heat was on and it felt toasty (very cold here these days). There is a nice common area, and local restaurants will bring up meals. (The albergue is almost a km out of town).
