Olá peregrinos, A new route from Porto to Santiago is under construction, the Via Mariana. It leads roughly over Braga - Melgaç0 - Corelo and past Valga to Santiago. As the name implies, it is mainly Mary's sanctuaries that are touched. It also leads through the National Park Peneda-Gerès, off beaten tracks. The signaling is under construction. There are already plans and descriptions, but at the moment only in Castiliano. Accommodation is limited, especially in Portugal, which leads to longer stages. New hostels are currently being prepared on the Spanish side.

Ive been thinking about this new way. It has upland character´in Portugal and leads at altitudes above 1,000 meters. The primary goal was to revive the rather depopulated areas, also known as the green desert. But which tourist wants to go there already - no reasonable infrastructure and agonizing climbs over the heights of nowhere. So the pilgrims have to do it. But one has quickly found a religious reason - a Mary´s way. It is not a Way of St. James, not even historically. Nevertheless, a lot of money is put into the development.
