Hi, we are limited to less than a week and seriously considering Conques to Cahors and curious if this is a good idea or there is possibly a better option? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

It's so hard to think of an ideal five-day stretch. Conques to Cahors would be fine, but I think four better options would be:

Le Puy to Aumont-Aubrac (or Nasbinals): Because it's always nice to start at the beginning.

Aumont-Aubrac (or Nasbinals) to Conques: You cross the Aubrac plateau, and stop in some wonderful medieval towns.

Figeac to Cahors via the Vallée du Célé. Just stunning. Lots of up and down, but it's worth it.

Lectoure to Eauze. You're in Gascony, the culinary heart of old France, and walking through Armagnac country here. That's enough

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
In addition to deciding which stages to walk, consider the fact that you don’t want to lose time getting to and from the route. Conques is notorious for poor transport connections, while the Figeac to Cahors section recommended above gives you decent rail connections at either end.

Much will depend on where you’re arriving from and headed to. For example, I left the route once at Aire sur l’Adour, took a noon the bus to Pau, and caught a very early morning train to Paris (via Bordeaux) that took under 5 hours.

Good luck!

Hi there, I'm considering walking from Le Puy to St. Jean next spring if I can get my French up to par. I'm looking on advice on a few things: - Would it be too cool and rainy to start walking...
