Vía de la Plata as a first camino

14 days straight, 30km+/day, August heat, Beautiful but hilly terrain. Carrying a lot of water. First Camino. You may want to consider starting at Puebla de Sanabria. It would give you more time to explore the experience.

How/why is VdlP difficult?

Less infrastructure, equals more weight, with longer daily milage requirements, and an additional one third longer total distance than the CF. More solitude, less pilgrims, requires more self reliance. I haven't done them all, but this is my favourite so far!

Start in Gibraltar or Almeria?

I have met a few pilgrims that have started their Camino VDLP from Cadiz. Both parties would recommend the hike, and also the city. About 120 km. south of Seville. Lots of history.
