Well, I think my original post is now academic....especially with the latest advice/restrictions announced by UK govt last night. Pamplona - here I (do not) come:(
Further to posts on another thread, has anyone recent experience of travelling by land between France and Spain?
Arrivals by air have to complete entry form, with contact details, flight number etc - I am booked to land Biarritz airport, then bus to Pamplona via San Sebastian. At present France...
Simples. Some of us regular pilgrims become addicted to the camino - I have walked the Frances (in parts several times, whole route 3 times. Camino Ingles 4 times) two trips a year since 2011.
It really is different each time: you meet different people, of course, you stay at different...
Starting 1st September from Sjpdp, for the 3rd time, 40 km a day for 20 days. Arriving Biarritz 0945 from Luton, anyone else on the same easyjet flight?
Taxi - expensive - or bus from airport to Bayonne, then train to SJPDP. You'll miss the midday train, next one at 1452, then another at 1812, takes about 1 hour, and costs 10 euros,
A Belgian peregrina friend described the place as "creepy".
As my earlier post indicated, definitely somewhat "off centre".
I would add that I did meet Tomas, and his 2 somewhat strange helpers, nothing wrong with them at all, I just didn't feel comfortable with the thought of passing a night there.
Stopped there a couple of years ago, around midday, with the thought to stay the night.
Decidedly strange atmosphere, so had a donativo coffee, and walked on. Very basic facilities, not that it put me off, but some back-of-the-mind alarm bells rang, so not for me.
Well it may be simpler but certainly not cheaper to buy Renfe tickets locally, on the day of travel. Promo fares on line are much less than the regular fare - whether it's a good idea to buy in advance is, of course, a matter of opinion. However, if one has a fixed arrival time at Barajas, for...
I think the OP is going to walk it, her way. Why is it that some on here get so p*****
off because others wish to do the camino in a way different to the one they would advocate?
Certainly do not miss Burgos - lots to see, as well as the cathedral.
Then, walk to Carrion de los Condes to experience the Meseta, get bus from there to Leon, spend at least a day there, then walk to Sarria (get local bus out of Leon to La Virgen del Camino, to avoid some dire trekking through...
On a slightly divergent theme, I've found that Spanish rail passengers don't always take too much note of where they sit - I have twice had to ask someone to vacate my - booked - seat, in a crowded carriage, otherwise it wouldn't have been an issue.
On ALSA buses, a different system seems to...
I've just done some testing for a Renfe ticket Leon/Astorga/Ponferrada to SdC - I have 20 days walking from SJPDP, so am exploring the options if I don't make the whole 800km in that time.....(lol)
It seems there is, at the moment on that route, a 24 day lapse on booking availability - ie, the...
Well, I have to say that I've never had a problem booking RENFE tickets on line, or printing them, by credit card, from the UK. The main thing to note is that the ticket will be sent as an attachment to print off in their confirmation email. If you try to print directly from the website, it...
Sorry, I can't remember which edition, and it's long lost now. But it had a good description of the route, including the section where streams have taken over the paths, and waterproof shoes are useful! I found the waymarking OK - the only thing I didn't find was Celia's Bar, which must be quite...
I walked for a few days with a very nice Irishman on the Frances 2 years ago - he was, unfortunately, allergic to garlic, and carried a written notice to show at meal times: "no ajo". After becoming separated, we met again in Santiago, where we had a meal together - he had to forego his first...
Well, years ago whilst staying at Glasgow youth hostel (and a lot younger), I did fall out of the top bunk. Fortunately, cushioned by sleeping bag, no lasting damage done. But a very rude awakening, once I'd realised where I was....
I've put this on the Frances board, as that's where I've walked the most.
So, as a mature pilgrim, who has slept in many albergues along the route, my preference is obviously for the lower bed in a bunkhouse dorm, preferably in the corner, as most pilgrims would agree. However, as I'm male, and...
Well, there are buses/trains/
Well, there are plenty of buses, trains, taxis available all the way - you could walk a little,or not, as you feel, then get transport to the next place for the night - lots of hostals and private albergues which don't insist on one having walked all day. Visit...
