I loved the walk from Lisbon but regret not spending an extra day in each town so take your time and enjoy the sights, the people and the food. Tomar was beautiful and I should have spent some time there.
My wife and I have walked both the Camino Frances from SJPdP (2013) and Portuguese from Lisbon (2015) and wrote a daily blog candmcamino.blogspot which might give you a feeling for both. Each one has its own positives. My favourite was the Portuguese from Porto but then again there is something...
My wife Mary and I walked the Portuguese Camino this year and recorded a daily blog on candmcamino.blogspot. This blog also contains our daily blog for the Camino Frances (2013) and Assissi to Rome (2014).
This has been great. I start from Lisbon on Sunday 17th and what you have said is reassuring. I will be doing a daily blog that can be found at candmcamino.blogspot. Thanks for your great information. I reach Porto on the 28th and will look forward to your comments on the Porto to Santiago journey.
In the past I was a runner and then a senior international athletics coach. In 2013 my wife and I, both over 60, started in SJPDP (May 27th) and walked to Santiago. We both wore Merrell Moad Ventilator shoes and didn't have any problems with blisters. This year we are walking from Lisbon to...
That was our mistake on the first morning of our journey to Santiago on 27 th May 2013. We had watched the film so turned left at the side of the river and went over the wooden bridge but sure we eventually made it to Santiago.
Last year, 2014, my wife Mary and I walked the St. Francis Way, from Assissi to Rome. The days were long and hilly, the way was badly marked, accommodation was at times difficult, and there were few pilgrims walking.
In 2013 my wife Mary and I along with Austin and Pauline Patterson left SJPDP on 27th May and arrived Santiago 2nd July. We were all over 60. With proper shoes, socks and keeping our backpacks as light as possible we were almost injury and blister free. At our age we found the Albergues a bit...
My wife and I walked from St Jean to Santiago, May 2013, and we encountered snow, sleet, rain, cold, mud and heat. We wrote a daily blog, candmcamino.blogspot where you can find details of our preparations including what we packed.
When we were there in June 2013 it was a cold, damp, dark day. There were 4 of us and when we arrived 2 other pilgrims were about to leave. It was a quiet, serene, place that was emotionally charged and will always live in our memories. It was a special place to leave your stone in rememberance...
This really brings back memories of May 2013 and Route Napoleon. Austin, Pauline, Mary and I didn't expect these conditions but we made it and walked the whole way to Santiago.
It shocked us to but we knew that we would be going over the mountains so we had micro fleeces, soft shells, and wet gear. Don't worry, if four 60+ pensioners like us can do it so can you. Just remember it's a distance event and not a sprint so take your time and walk slowly.
