    Spanish or Portuguese?

We walked this route last year and were surprised at how many Portuguese people speak English. They are also very friendly and helpful. We also spoke some Portuguese but had we not, there would not have been to many difficulties. I think you will love the Portuguese camino!

Walking stick on the Camino Portugues

We walked from Porto to Santiago without poles. Personally for me I like to be hands free...but that said if I did it again I would reconsider. There are some areas where I think they might have come in handy. There are a few times when it is steep and/or rugged but we just went slow. And...

Starting in Porto Aug 10, 2013

We walked the Portuguese route in early May. Did not walk on the coast but met up with those that did in and after Barcelos. The scenery was beautiful - walking thru woods, along rivers, vineyards, farms and villages. We loved the Portuguese camino - our first camino. We were told from...

Francesca - we arrive in Oporto on April 25th and our plan is to begin our walk on Sunday the 27th. We are staying two nights at the Pestanna on the Douro River and from there we have no plans. We do have Bierly's book and haven't even decided for sure which route to take although I think we...

Thank you! We are leaving in two months - flying to Porto. We have reservations for two nights in Porto to kind of get over jet lag and get our act together. And then we have no plans but to walk to Santiago. We are so excited and to see what others have done is just so inspiring. We hope...

    Camino Portuguese

Thank you everyone for all the tips! I am traveling with a translator...haha, my husband is Portuguese and speaks Portuguese. That is why for our first camino, we decided to go this way. Our experience though in Portugal is that the people are nice and try to be as helpful as possible. If...

The July experience of Camino Portuges, Coastal

I have a question about the coastal route? Is it possible to walk along the coast but not actually on the sand? We are walking in April-May 2013, beginning in Oporto, and would love to be on the coast but really don't want to walk on sand. Thank you everyone for all the valuable information...

    Finally, April/May 2013 we start!

We are planning April-May 2013 from Porto but am not sure which route. I read one blog and think yes, that sounds good and then read another and then start second guessing myself. I would love to do part coast, part inland so am considering how to do that. Am glad to know there will be others...
