    Sunday/Monday Shopping in SJPdP

Saint Jean is a tourist town. Small shops are open on Sundays and you will be able to buy bread, cheese and ham without a doubt. I even had a sandwich made in one of the shops very early in the morning before I headed out of town.

Is 5 days in Finisterre a bad idea?

It sounds like you are looking for an excuse to to support your decision. Walking along the west coast of Spain around Finisterre can't be too much different than walking along the northern coast of California, can it? I guess it all has to do with what are looking for? It boils down to: RnR or...

Is 5 days in Finisterre a bad idea?

I have spent time in both A Coruna and Finisterre and by far A Coruna would be my choice for 5 days. I was bored to death after 2 nights in Finisterre, there are only a few harbor side bars and restaurants there while A Coruna is bustling with tapas bars and restaurants.

How the Camino has changed for me

Finally a thread about the spirit of the Camino, not one about the bed race, aches, pains and food.

How the Camino has changed for me

Laurie, Thanks for your thoughts. I always enjoy meeting you whenever we cross paths. I started my Camino experience 10 year later than you did but after 3 or 4 years of the grind, I too began doing the solitary trails, off season, and began enjoying the seldom seen places no one bothers about...

Depending on the Rx, many are available OTC or simply by presenting your script to a pharmacist in Spain. BTW, they are generally less expensive than they are in the US.

How to decide how long to walk for

I do not want to one-up my friend Laurie, but in 2017 I walked numerous Caminos for nearly 3 months. I was living in Biarritz at the time and could go any time I wanted. In addition to my walking I also volunteered at San Anton for two weeks, I wish I had kept a log of how many k's I did that...

Pacemaker Implant Surgery Tomorrow. A New Phase for Future Caminos.

Dave, bon courage. I didn't want to write a long winded response but decided to add my 2 cents worth. I had a Medtronic pacemaker installed about six months after a triple bypass in 2021, due to an afib issue. It has been seamless to date. It was an emergency surgery so there was no time for...

Maybe a little late with my planning for le Puy...

Miam Miam Dodo is a great guide book. Reservations are recommended, remember lots of French hikers do this route for short vacations, long weekends and over holiday periods. Bastille Day is in July. I took the train from Gare Lyon in Paris. I believe you can obtain a credential at the cathedral...

Appointment needed to go to health Center ?

I think you answered your own question. If you have an infection on your foot, I would definitely stop and have it checked by a health professional as soon as possible, a short wait time might be the least of your problems.

    Stomach Bug on Meseta

I remember in years past many people pointed their finger at the drinking water in Carrion which comes from wells and/or the river. If the water level was high or low, I can't remember which, there would be numerous stomach upsets. There were many staunch denials regarding this suspicion.

    Confused over date format

"**it happens" and I hope you had a great meal on the segundo dia. Thank God in Portugal, Sunday says something about our Lord and Monday is Segunda Feira or we would all be lost about calendar days.

If there are too many pilgrims, what is a pilgrim to do?

The final year that I truly enjoyed the Camino experience was in 2017. I was still living in Biarritz at the time and hopscotched from one Camino to another for 90 days, I also volunteered for several weeks at San Anton. I think avoiding the bottlenecks and traffic takes some previous experience...
