    And now to the backpack..

Hi! A bit late answering this, but I went with the Osprey Sirrus 36l bag to the airport to test it and it fits in the Priority bag case for Ryanair. The structure is 55cm long quite exactly. The 68, I suppose it’s when the brain would be fully packed. Flying out with Ryanair too, so I know now...

    And now food and drinks...

When the kids were small, we had banana boxes for them. Litterally, a yellow box shaped as a banana, that we would put in their schoolpack for the almuerzo. On a side note: it’s not “Frutos Y Secos”. It’s “Frutos Secos” and it englobes nuts and dried fruits. 😉

    And now food and drinks...

Okay so we do have fresh milk in Spain, Mercadona has it in a refrigerator but not where UHT milk is, sometimes it is next to fresh packed fish, sometimes next to fresh orange juice. Don’t ask me the logic about that. Aldi always sells fresh milk too, but you have to be early in the shop to get...

    And now to the backpack..

and just to prove you wrong….. The Sirrus 34 and the Jade 38 are here , they both fit. I will test a walk today with each one to decide which one to keep because they are very similar and both work well for my packing list. If they both work well on the walk, I’ll keep the cheapest which is...

    And now to the backpack..

Worked really hard to lose 60+ lbs, and the Camino is my personal reward, so nope, not going to do that 😅. On a side note: I really really like the Sirrus 34. I just feel I could adjust the torso better, the one I tried has a scratch to adjust it, the new version has a different system so...

Survey: Heavy comfortable pack vs Lighter less comfortable pack?

After my odyssey in search of a backpack for my camino, I now can only say the same thing. I came up with the idea that a fastpack, because it's super-light, and because that's what I use regularly, would be best. I didn't understand all these posts extolling the benefits of backpacks with a...

    And now to the backpack..

I know!!! I fully agree. I am so glad I tried the Montane on a hike, imagine finding out it does not work after all on the Camino.. 😔. I am a bit sad because I really love that pack but I now know I need a solid frame, ideally it should be a trampoline system as to 1. Not sweat like a pig and 2...

    And now to the backpack..

This is so true… I walked yesterday 10k with the Montane packed with my Camino stuff and after 5k, my lower back was killing me.. Back to square one 😭

    Drink water to keep hydrated

I agree with @trecile, @peregrina2000 and @C clearly. I walk a lot in the Sierra de Mijas, so I have had my fair share of experience with water management when hiking, and most of the fountains are closed now since we are in a drougth since I don’t even can record, so I really have to plan...

    Drink water to keep hydrated

    Which bladder do you use?

    Drink water to keep hydrated

I am looking now at how to handle the water question, preparing for my first Camino. I have small bottles, because I never liked the taste out of a bladder but it maybe because the bladder I tried was not the best quality one. I may take a bladder with me just in case, not sure yet.. But I sweat...

    And now to the backpack..

Let’s hope it’s my last post on this thread.. by now you must all think I am nuts. Which I probably am. Before sending the Montane back, as I liked it very much, I decided to walk 5k on a treadmill with the Montane one day and 5k with the Forclaz the next. I sweat a bit more with the Montane...

    And now to the backpack..

Final (?) twist…..With the Forclaz MT900 UL 45l (the women version) finally back in the Decathlon store near me, I couldn't resist trying it out. This is the bag I originally wanted but it was unavailable for so long (it is to be discontinued, a new version will be available in spring, but the...

Rain gear on Ingles in beginning October

No. I may walk with a skort at times, a capri pant at others. I sweat easily so rain pants are not a good idea for me. I will be in Santiago by the beginning of October so it might still be quite warm on the way. I have frozen in Santiago in November though, so I am taking light long pants and a...

"A Viking Life" exhibition in Santiago (until January 5th 2025)

I visited the big Vikings exhibition last year in Montreal and loved it, looking very much forward to visiting this one in Santiago in October. Thank you for posting this 🙏.

Rain gear on Ingles in beginning October

I am in the same conundrum right now, preparing for the camino portugues end of september. I have a poncho, I have a rainjacket, I have an umbrella, but which one to pack? The poncho would cover the backpack too, but feels totally overkill and cumbersome if it’s raining in the afternoon and I...
