Walked the Norte last Sept/Oct., and the first two days were sensational... Take the previous advice and divide Day 1 into 2 stages, stopping in the wonderful little town of Passajes de St. Jean... your knees will thank you... Take as many of the variant coastal routes as you can (Zarautz to...
Hi Lee! Thanks for following! It's been an adventure for sure.. I can't believe how many pilgrims are out there right now... The bed race is real, even at the end of September... competing with a lot of tourists and surfers, but the weather has been spectacular aside from 36 hours of rain...
Doing a daily blog for friends and family... Happy to share my experiences with those interested... You can follow me at https://hollandauctions.wixsite.com/norte
Geez, I hope I didnt come off as a food snob... While I have had the good fortune to attend some of the best restaurants in the world, my guiding light on a trip like this is the 'Mom and Pop' resto/bars that serve honest meals, with recipes that have been often handed down over generations...
Thanks lalaone... I will definitely be checking out the restaurants on your list... I have a list of pintxos bars to try in San Sebastien... I've given myself the better part of a day to make it through all of them!
I'll be starting the Norte in a week and a half, and I have noticed that in a forum search for food, there is not a lot of info specific to the topic for any of the routes. I thought that was odd, as one of the reasons I chose the Norte was for the pintxos and fresh seafood experience I have...
Maybe try a 50/50 draw, selling tickets for closest number to the actual kilometers you walk on your trip?... Have somebody at home run it for you, with winner getting half the monies raised and the other half to your charity of choice... Fun for everyone without having to beg for donations....
Hello Pilgrims! Exactly one month out from today I start my first camino (Norte), and am struggling to bring my backpack weight under control, but have no choice, as I am certain that my CPAP machine has literally saved my life (my body was beginning to shut down before I received my first...
Can't speak to the travel part of your question, but drinking sangria in the Plaza Mayor was one of the highlights of my last trip to Spain, and well worth staying the night...
Thanks to everybody who has replied to this post!... you have given me food for thought... As I re-read my original post, I wonder if I gave an impression that I was at all anxious about completing my camino... I have no doubt that I can complete Irun to Santiago barring any serious injury (I am...
As I re-evaluate, perhaps I was only looking for permission to engage in said debauchery, and since you seem to have given your blessing, I think I'm good to go!
Funny about the first part of your statement, I HAVE noticed a number of people who tend to like to reply to posts on this forum in a negative fashion... I do appreciate that you reigned yourself in!... lol... I guarantee you I am no wallflower, nor irresolute about wanting to do this, just...
If we're being honest, many small businesses across the world stay afloat by 'setting aside'
a percentage off the top of sales... but none are going to admit to it in public! While the cafe owner may be telling you he prefers CC, he almost certainly is thinking to himself, "I hope this fine...
I will be walking my first camino starting in mid-September, and while my wife and daughter have graciously agreed to mind our business while I am gone, I only(!) have 39-40 days to complete my journey, including any rest days, and my intention is to walk from Irun to Finisterre... As I began...
I have been pondering this exactly for my upcoming camino... I settled on just carrying my passport, money and cards in a zipped pocket of my cargo shorts, eliminating the possibility of accidently leaving a waist or cross over bag laying around... Any reason this is not sound?
Thanks to everybody who has shared their thoughts to this post so far, and keep 'em comiing! Insightful, full of grace and humbleness... your reflections have raised my anticipation to new levels... At a time in my life when the 'same old routine' has become indescribably monotonous, and being...
Hi All!... New member here, with my first camino just under two months away (del Norte from Irun starting September 18!)... Have been watching and reading posts for the last several months, but am really starting to get ramped up as the daily countdown dwindles, and thought I would ask previous...
