I walked from Cea to Oseira last year, and didn't have to walk along any stream beds. The path I followed was along an old roadway. IIRC there were a couple of places where the road surface had washed away. Perhaps a little more care might be required crossing these washouts, but I don’t recall...
For those with a sense of history about this, here is something I wrote back in 2014. There were others, like falcon269, who had been saying similar things even earlier than that. We often stand on the shoulders of others as we refine the advice we provide today.
I don't think you could go wrong with this advice. It is consistent with the advice provided over the years by those of us who have had a genuine interest in this topic. I did a quick search, and here https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/flat-feet.27948/#post-228736 is an older post...
I hope you don't need luck!! Rather, I hope your surgery goes well, you have a safe speedy recovery, and rehab that gets you back doing things you love as well as you once did.
I smile at the willingness of the many contributors here who have not actually provided what I think of as very useful information, although it is good to see that others have a more nuanced approach to balancing the size and weight issues than just suggest everyone can do this in 40li or less...
Some quick takes:
most airlines have schedules up for about 12 months. My wife and I are frequent flyer club members of a couple of airlines. Where we have a higher status, we get an extra month of visibility compared to the public access web sites. Subscribe to any/all airlines you are...
I think that there is probably a different origin story for its entry into Europe, which would appear to be woolen fabric imported from Tasmania, not the eucalypts that were send from Western Australia to Spain.
While they might provide an aromatic reminder of home for Australians, that is all...
To give balance, my wife and I transited through CDG last year on our way to Lisbon. It clearly suffers from aging security infrastructure at the gates, but otherwise, we had no problems at the time we passed through and our luggage arrived at our destination. There was a short delay because the...
I forget that there are so many wonderful place names in the US. Your headline had me pondering what old route had been discovered and been resurrected from Paris to Santiago!!
Nils, buen camino.
I don't understand your drive to do this while fasting, and what that might mean. I do hope that you 'listen to your body' and take sufficient sustenance to stay healthy.
Really, in my opinion, then, you have no idea what you are talking about. I have walked my caminos starting from early to mid autumn, and used packs ranging from 45 li to 65 li. Walking with two sleep conditions and carrying a CPAP, and carrying pain medication for osteoarthritis, increases the...
My experience walking from Lisbon to Fatima was slightly different, but I don't think I saw any Portuguese pilgrims. It's not that they weren't there. A couple of the albergues from Santarem to Fatima were full of cycling pilgrims. It was only after Coimbra that I saw Portuguese pilgrims heading...
Rather than settling on a specific size, you might try doing a couple of quick checks.
First, do an initial estimate of the pack volume needed to support someone of your weight and height. My quick rule of thumb is to confirm your 'healthy' weight for your height. A BMI of 25 is a good...
I think the camino effect would be much more evident in smaller towns and villages. When I walked in 2010, Foncebadon was still very much coming out of its ruins. Six years later it was a much different place. While it might be one of the more obvious places to have benefited from pilgrims, I am...
Let us all know when you retire and start running a pub. I will be the first at your door asking you to pay me for drinking your beer!! At 300% less than the 8 euro beer, you would be paying me 16 euro - that would be wonderful for the short time you remained in business :)
Really!!! Do the arithmetic. The difference is 123 Euro, which makes the 100 euro 55% cheaper than the US price. It is the simplest mathematics. Anyone who suggests that something is 100% or more less than something else clearly does not understand basic arithmetic.
Edit: and the suggestion...
