Alert: Route blocked between Borce and Urdos

Oh no. I'll be there in a few days. Is this a temporary thing or something that will be an issue for the coming days?

Have any Americans walked the whole Francigena?

you could try applying for a visa extension (or at the very least send an email to inquire if this was a possibility).

    What's so special about SJPP?

Because the nomenclature/the route names, are a modern creation.

    What's so special about SJPP?

All the literature I've ever seen that uses the modern nomenclature of "Camino Frances" starts in SJPdP. So I'm not talking history here, I'm talking labels. From Ostabat the label used is the Via Podiensis.

    What's so special about SJPP?

To be fair to the OP, I think this is a question of nomenclature. And in that sense, yes the route named the "Camino Frances" does begin in SJPdP. So the question becomes: how did each route get their name and how was their start (and end) points determined. This is more of a recent history...

Advance bookings!!! (Are they ruining the Camino?)

Oh no... this sound tragic. I'll be leaving shortly to begin on the Aragones... I hope the general mood improves...

Shipping backpack - Do albergues charge to hold bags for people not staying there?

This isn't an "extra" charge. It's an entirely different charge.| You paid for transport. The bag was transported. Service complete. Now if it's transported somewhere that you didn't pay for or that doesn't accept storage, that's on you.

Recommended Stages after Lugo - where to put the short day?

Agreed. Pass by Melide as it's a major stopping point. Stay in between stages here. I did and all the places I stayed were very quiet.

Advance bookings!!! (Are they ruining the Camino?)

There seem to be less bed shortage panic posts... I guess things have calmed down? I wonder if the previous posts have resulted in many postponing their trips? And / or if it's pushed more to prebook thereby leaving more space in the non-bookable places?

Shipping backpack - Do albergues charge to hold bags for people not staying there?

I've heard of this happening and worse: of the albergue just not accepting the bags. And I support this. It's not their responsibility to look after or take bags if they don't want to. It's your responsibility to ensure that you are shipping your belongings somewhere that will accept them.

Comparing alternate routes from León (to avoid Camino Francés)

How did you find the accommodations on the Olvidado? Looking at the last few legs on Gronze there seem to be few options.

I've not heard of this Benavente detour, can you tell me more?

3-6 days in Sarria - waiting for group to arrive

Lugo has a Roman festival every summer. I'm not sure when this summer but you can look it up. I was there last year and it was fab—though it will make finding accomodations tougher if you don't pre-book. If the timing is right I recommend it!

LIVE from the Camino CF-things are not that bad - May 2023

Ive been learning a lot about how pilgrim waves have peaks and troughs, and about how understanding mass psychology can help navigate accomodations. NorthernLight and a couple others are my examples of how some are doing pretty well while others are not. I leave in 2 weeks and I hope that I'm...

3-6 days in Sarria - waiting for group to arrive

Why fly to Santiago? You can fly to A Coruna Alvedro Airport (LCG) which is less than 100kms from Sarria for €38.99. But this may be just me... I wouldn't want my walk to Santiago spoiled by flying in there.

3-6 days in Sarria - waiting for group to arrive

If you haven't yet bought that tkt to Santiago I'd say spend time in Barcelona and somewhere else near by (Zaragoza? Valencia?). 6 days is a long time to wait, and if you're walking to Santiago I'd say wait to explore it for when you arrive.
