If you could walk with someone for a few days - dead or alive - who?

A duplicate of myself .... quietly listening

Lumbar pack instead of backpack. Has anyone done it?

A lumbar pack idea is not impossible, as others have of note. I personally feel less fatigue using lumbar day packs opposed to shoulder gear. Keep in mind, a perfectly fitted, say 28L with wide belt, will transfer most weight onto the hips....not much different to the kit you propose.

    Primitivo

I used similar technique from Toronto, pretty much all overseas flights to Europe are red eyes giving ample time to catch connections. The OP will have similar success from New York. I arrived Oviedo mid-afternoon, found a nice place, did some walking around and was happily on the trail the...

    Waterproof hiking shoes/boots?

Gortex lined boots and shoes are good for a short 'walk in the park' where you stop often to listen to the birds. To 'work' the foot ware, as in the Camino, I would stay away from Gortex, it is like walking with garbage bags on your feet. I have thrown away perfectly functional Gortex boots...

Mid-Oct 2025 Primitivo - grateful for any planning thoughts.

"Be prepared for wet weather"..... that's for sure, cold wet windy days. I observed a couple of ultra lite poncho clad bare legged low open shoed pilgrims within minutes of hypothermia on a high mountain pass with rain blowing sideways, yes there was a refuge hut, but it was double bolted shut...

Do you have a favorite Camino tree?

One of my most arduous days on Camino Norte consisted of constant vertical rain. I walked through a forest knowing the day would be a long 31km, there was no farms, villages or buildings. Hours at a constant pace, alone, resided that pushing-on was the only option....I needed a rest...

Is there really a waterproof solution

I would do the same in 'warm to hot weather'...BUT...I witnessed two pilgrims very close to hypothermia using that set-up...it was cold, wind driven rain on a mountain pass.

    The yellow road

I am interested in the Camino from Porto.... Interest is beginning to wane due to an aversion to busy highway walking. This post prompts further research.

Possible daily cost of Camino Frances, single traveler, 9/2024

$100Eu/day is more than enough, you will probably average 50-60. I personally carry cash, most do not, I find it makes life more simple, spread it around but mostly in a money belt that NEVER leaves you, sleep with it, even in private room ( not like Golum's "my precious"), if into a routine...

    Current trail and dog conditions?

I would like to walk Salvador, my late season Caminos are making the most arduous exponential. Primitivo is open at most sections, with narrow paths on the steep ascents, encroaching bushes easy to skirt. Dogs. I came up with a deterrent, and I include excerpt of my previous post : I have...

Young people on the Camino Primitivo

    "Do it dude"

    Maintaining weight on Camino

If you walk 5-6hours per day and eat similar to your existing calorie intake at home, then you will lose weight. I usually do. Keep in mind that muscle is heavy, you can lose stomach diameter but not lose weight.

    Review Clothing Management

I have perused many well written posts regarding clothing and equipment, I agree...adapt...and adopt many. It is with concern I notice 'the maximum conditions associated to the clothing recommended is not qualified'. Future pilgrims planning their camino are creating a 'kit', not on comfort and...

    Train cancelled from Bayonne?

Same happened to me once, they had buses at the ready to take over.

    October Camino - shorts?

Well managed will be OK bringing shorts. ....on thought however....last year on Primitivo, same time as you plan, I experienced the troubling view of what I consider very BAD clothing management. Conditions were Very Cold Wet Windy. These people 'bought into' the belief that 'light is...

High Arch Inserts for Keens H2

I use 3/4 raised arch support in my boots, also, I have the Keen sandal you mention. I do not see 'why not' to your question (good idea). You may have to add some "shoe goo" or similar to keep them in position, I added a small dab even though the support was under my insole ( support inches...

    Primitivo stages & accommodation.

    Agree....25km did seem a 35km day

Canadian Pilgrims - Freedom Mobile Question

Get a local company, "Orange" perhaps, drop into a Kiosk at airport when you land, they will install SIM and activate 20-40E, (as mentioned), all you need for 28 day....staying longer, mention to attendant at Kiosk, they will advise. Do Not use any Canada Roaming options, very expensive and...

Buying hiking poles along the Primitivo route

If stuck for a walking aid, find a stick in the first forest encounter. They will quickly become your friend.

Are there Book swaps on the Camino. What book would you take.

    Consider a small "Bible".
