Food on La Meseta beyond abysmal

I walked a few months ago, and found plenty of good food to eat on the Meseta. I dont rely on the pilgrim menu, it depends on the town, and I adjust my mealtimes to match what's open. My guide book (the little green Michelin one) gives me a quick visual of the services available in each town...

    Poles have failed - help!

I need two poles too, I'd see if someone can help you where you're staying..

    Burgos for 2 nights

I stayed there last time, the rooms were small but clean and comfortable. Close to the old town, and on the Camino. There was a convoluted way of getting in and out of the building after hours, but it was very reasonably priced, and Id stay there again.

    Abandoned elderly pilgrims

As a normally fast walker I find it is hard to adjust your speed down to a much slower speed. It takes physical effort, as your legs go on automatic, and its hard not to go to your normal stride. However when walking with someone injured or older I make an effort not to race off. I wouldn't...

    Washing clothes on CP

Last 2 Caminos I took a lightweight cotton shirt, I dont usually walk in it, but its a good evening item for later (tends to be hot later in the day and cotton is nice and cool). I walk in a quick dry synthetic Tshirt which does its job, but doesn't feel as nice on the skin. The cotton shirt is...

A general "don't bring/don't pack" in your attitude kit

I don't think she's tarring all men with the same brush. I think she encountered someone who truly frightened her with inappropriate behaviour. I think it can be difficult to understand if this type of behaviour hasnt been directed at you. Someone posted here some time ago. Men are afraid that...

    Artificial Intelligence

I am putting together a Camino trip for a friend. She has some physical issues, so the terrain plays a big part of the planning. On my recent Camino I met people who booked through agencies, and it appears that the narrative goes something like: How many days do you have, what is your budget...

    Artificial Intelligence

I think pretty much anyone can follow the arrows.

Minimum age for children to walk on 800km Camino Frances

We walked with our 13 year old grandson; in 2 years we'll take another grandson (who will be 13 too) I made the decision to do this after meeting an Alaskan couple with 2 kids aged 8 and 12 who walked from Le Puy - we met them in Rabanal. We did a lot of preparation with him, but I think that...

    Camino by skateboard?

We took our 13 year old grandson on the Camino Frances in 2019. He was keen to take his board but in the end he didn't. When we finished he was pleased that he hadn't taken it, and also that I had curated the contents of his pack (which would have been kilos heavier if I hadn't). And we really...

Will the Protest Against Tourists in Barcelona Come to Santiago?

I walked into Santiago a month ago. I did notice large groups coming through singing, yelling, racing across the square. Very noisy and triumphant. In the time that I was there all of these large groups were Spanish. There was one small group of Italian cyclists, but apart from that all were...

    Low-hanging fruit

Thats for sure. This year, as we were walking along a path with vineyards either side, I saw a cloud of mist, and realised that we were about to be sprayed along with the grapes. Backed up a bit, waited for it to settle, the wind carried it off a bit, then hoped my buff would filter out the...

The price of items in bars and cafes

I dont think I was ever charged 3.50. It was normally 4.50, and I was grateful for that. A warm cafe, seat, nice coffee, and a usually large toast often 2 pieces. But in Santiago itself it was dearer.

The price of items in bars and cafes

I found that if you ordered from a menu (eg dinner) the prices are clearly printed on the menu. Breakfast is usually ordered from the counter, so I could expect tostada and cafe con leche to be from 4.50 - 6.00 euros. I dont think coffee prices are displayed - but then I probably never looked.

    What Do You Regret?

Not walking earlier, I was 57 when I walked my first Camino.

    Money on the Camino

I think I only used Pin twice this time.

    Money on the Camino

I think CC was accepted in most places, as long as the purchase was over 10 euros. They usually have a sign up by their counters.
