    The night before butterflies.

Ah the excitement! Tomorrow you will become an experienced pilgrim. Buen Camino!

    Men's Underwear & Anatomy

I am happy to hear that I am not the only lady who has resorted to this solution. Just like Susan Peacock and Meandlan, I wear a boker brief (mine are Under Armour mens) under a skirt. I am very tall, and can't seem to find a pair of hiking shorts that are high enough in the rise to be...

How accessible and frequent are bathrooms on the Camino?

I too purchased one of these female urinary devices (as they are called) for my first camino. My husband referred to it as "The whizatoma"! I gave it up for our second trek and resorted to squatting. Alas, an issue with my knee has me contemplating it's return for this year's Camino.

    Coffee in Spain

It is without sugar. They almost always seem to stick a couple of sugar packs on the saucer. I too prefer it without!

The Apostle Santiago ‘too sexy and erotic’

I must say, I'd much rather look at him parading around the albergue waiting for his laundry to dry, than some of the body types (my own included), that are on display in briefs and t shirts! Uh, not that I was looking.

    Coffee in Spain

People who know me are shocked that most days on the Camino, I am up and out the door to walk about 10 k before getting a coffee. In fact, I am rather shocked by the whole thing myself! At home I shuffle from bed to the kitchen looking miserable until coffee can be located. Just knowing that...

    The albergue near a brothel?

Well of course that is exactly what I looked like as I trudged along in the August heat (and the August wind and rain).

    Class of 2018

Yes indeed, life and the Camino often prove to have different plans than we do. We have become more and more convinced that things happen for a reason and if we are patient, it usually becomes clear to us. At least that makes us feel better when things don't go as planned! Enjoy your travels Bala.

    01/02/18 ***Airfare Alert***

Just seeing this now. We live in Victoria, BC. I feel like prices have taken quite a jump and particularly to Spain and Portugal. I hunted for anyway possible to get to get ourselves there for less but in the end bit the bullet and paid the ridiculous fares. I booked on January 11th and we...

    Class of 2018

Last year was to have been our year to do a portion of the Portugese route. After some early investigation into flights, we felt that perhaps we should talk to a travel agent or wait as prices seemed very high. I guess it was something else holding us back. My Dad's health began to rapidly...

    Class of 2018

We picked up in our trail in Burgos in 2015 with a month available to us time wise. We had ample time to get to Santiago and carried on to Finisterre and Muxia before returning to Madrid for our flight home. We were careful to minimize our distances at the start to avoid injuries. Hopefully...

Comment by 'volleyjanice' in media 'Ensalada Mixta Deluxe'

There are some interesting additions to the conventions mixta here...canned pineapple? Is that a maraschino cherry?

Walking Porto to Santiago and have a few days ahead of that

We have similar plans for this August. When is your trip Judy? I would appreciate following this thread to benefit from the shared wisdom. I am finding myself dismayed at the flight costs I am seeing right now. We will be flying Victoria BC, Canada to Lisbon. With our height I really can't...

    Were we conned outside Sarria

When we arrived at the Cathedral in Santiago in 2015, I was videotaping as we walked through the archway into the square. Grandiose notions of capturing the big moment of our arrival after all of our hard work, blah blah blah... I had no sooner stepped into the light when I was accosted by a...

    Incident after Baamonde

A very traumatic experience for everyone involved! So happy to hear that you have been able to keep moving and processing what occurred. An event like that does make you skitterish but you are right in pointing out that these sort of incidents can happen at home (and likely there is more...

    Non-thinking Pilgrims taking Short-cut!

Great post. I was also bothered by the number of people who felt that it was okay to help themselves to any fruit/veg/grapes growing alongside the Camino in what were clearly gardens, vineyards, or private property. Such a sense of entitlement! I can't imagine trotting by someone's yard at...

Just arrived back home from Portuguese. I miss the natas!

Thank you Anamya, I'm sure that you are right. I appreciate your kind thoughts.

Just arrived back home from Portuguese. I miss the natas!

Thank you for this post! As Katie says, your enthusiasm (and humour) shine through. My husband and I had intended to walk at least a portion of the Camino Poruguese this year. Sadly my Dad's health began to decline and he passed away 6 weeks ago. We are also dealing with my Mom's dementia...

Two pilgrims lost and found in SJPP-Roncesvalles

I sheepishly admit to a lot of laughter as I read through this. I agree with the concept that it is in fact possible to get lost in any conditions. The issue here is two people who need to take some personal responsibility for their actions. There is no shortage of information available about...
