Why do pilgrims fly to Pamplona.

There’s not much in it either way and it partially depends on which connection you can most easily get from your start point. I’m more puzzled with the fixation with starting in St Jean; a fair number of Spaniards would consider Roncesvalles as a start point whilst I, having started in St Jean...

Ride share Taxi Share Pamplona Airport to SJPDP October 16, 2024

No. There’s no shortage and you’ve a better a chance of finding someone to share with if you’ve got a little flexibility.

Ride share Taxi Share Pamplona Airport to SJPDP October 16, 2024

I’d suggest checking out the taxi queue at the airport when you arrive. Anyone with clean shoes and a rucksack is probably going your way - either to Roncesvalles or St Jean

    Types of Compostela Certificates

    Terri: I’m shocked.

It’s your turn in the barrel on Wednesdays.

LIVE from the Camino A Swan Song?

You’ll be back. I’ll stake a pint on it. Double or quits. Best wishes. D

    Types of Compostela Certificates

A medal? Seriously guys, how desperate do you have to be? The entire premise of anything starting in St Jean is made-up. The provenance of St James’ earthly remains, discovered when the church was running low on cash, residing in Santiago is - let’s be kind - dubious. A man-made certificate...

Review of packinglist for october frances please! =)

I hope it’s not just me, but I can live with it if it is. I’ll never choose to sleep in tomorrow’s - or yesterday’s - clothes. In my youth, in the British army, I spent anything up to a week near the Irish border in the same clothes, eating cold food and defecating into a plastic bag. At least...

Review of packinglist for october frances please! =)

Headlamp is a good call - dawn comes late in Spanish time in October. You may have an excess of waterproof tops - ideally separate waterproof and warm so you can layer-up. If your poncho is one which will fully cover your sack, a rain cover is not necessary - but out of an abundance of...

Three extra days in Spain - Recommendations?

With two days spare. You probably don’t want to spend too much time in transit, or try to do too much. Go straight to Barcelona. If you’ve not been there before there is a huge amount of things to see and do. If you’ve been to Barcelona, but not Montserrat; do that. The logistics take some...

Bag transport companies on the Camino - a list

Do please let us know if you find anyone. The difficulty is compounded by winter bags typically being heavier.

Bag transport companies on the Camino - a list

Correos covers Sarria to Santiago through the winter, except a couple of days at Christmas. I don’t know if - and I doubt - there is coverage other than that. There simply are not enough holidaymakers, and those that are prepared to walk through winter seem more inclined to carry their bags...

Fair point - and I wish you success.

Credencial Tips (Camino Sanabres from Ourense)

Credenciales are available in Ourense including at the Albergue de peregrinos which will be open. If you look on Gronze.com for accommodation listings in any town or village you’re looking under ‘Servicios y equipamiento’ for a € sign next to ‘Expiden la Credencial’

"Sharing" the Camino: A Pilgrim's Experience to Make the Journey Cheaper

Did you consider the old-fashioned alternative to apps and other electronic communications - ‘talking to people’?

    Weird Shell

We have a slightly less impressive commemoration of an elephant which escaped from a circus, in less enlightened times, close to where I live. Rather than a splendid brass footprint we have ‘Jumbo’s’ Chinese takeaway.

    Transport and courier.

The downside of luggage transport is that you need to know where your bag is to be delivered to which necessitates either confidence in there being a vacancy when you arrive, or a pre-booking. A compromise may be to decide what you can carry and ship the remainder straight to Santiago, or some...

    No room at the Inn.

When and on what booking platform? That is certainly not typical. A random week night for next week in central Santiago shows rooms available for two people for €60-70, and that’s without trying.

(29M USA) Achilles problem - how serious is it and medical care

I think you should decide for yourself. You are obviously in a much better position to assess your degree of discomfort than anyone else and you’ll suffer the consequences - if any - of pushing it too far. You can ship your bag, get a local taxi number and so on and so forth. Up to my 50’s...

    Burgos for 2 nights

My regular stop in Burgos is the Norte y Londres which is clean and central, but I doubt it’ll be in your target price range. If you do opt for that the breakfast is OK but not great.
