Lost & Found Lost my credentials booklet

I appears that Neil posted a credential found on the Portuguese (Vigo) https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/found-credential-in-vigo-spain.88961/

    The dreaded descent into Zubiri

I once (2010) jogged down the decent into Zubiri (with full pack) in an attempt to catch up with some friends. I had walked it before and did not think that it was overly agressive. Actually, I had no real problems in jogging....but I was really sore for the next week. Not a really...

    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

I think that is the confusion as I understood as e-bikes types in the US are often lumped together...but most common seems to be the throttle controlled electric engine that does not require any pedaling to achieve motive power. Some of the posts above seem to include the full electric motor...

    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

I am confused and not attempting to cause further annoyance ....but what is the difference between riding an electric power "bike" and a petrol powered "bike" to travel a Camino route? It seems that there is a tiny bit of acceptance (not compostela) but not anyone making a case for gas power...

Help Finding Camino Bracelets for Grandkids

An image search on google brought up this one. A bit different than the ones above: https://www.mosa.lv/shop-1/item/silver-bracelets/3873592/ Someone serving at one of the albergues may see this and volunteer to have a look for you.

    Walking Poles

I walked 3 caminos without poles..including the Norte. I started carrying poles about my 4th camino and have carried them since. I do not walk with them normally but carry them folded on my pack and use them for long or steep up hill or down. My wife uses Pacer Poles constantly while walking...

    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

Why is this thread still open? I appears to have simply spiraled down into folks trading insults.

    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

The thread has (as is usual) drifted far off from the original subject The original post and conversation involved the granting of a Compostela to an e-bike rider who has obviously opted to use power in place of walking or pedaling. The contribution by @Treskelion is really a bit of an outlier...

    Compostela: Electric Bikes Excluded?

I am not sure it makes any difference any longer. The Camino as many of us once knew is pretty much just a memory...except for the personal satisfaction of walking. The changes today...Wheeled suitcases, luggage forwarding, using taxi, reservations, etc. have pretty much made me finally stop...

New rule reported: 2 stamps per day within Spain [awaiting confirmation]

My first credencial came from the Confraternity of Saint James of South Africa. I may have been the only American member of the CSAofSJ in 2008. It was in a booklet form and had about 80 (not sure) spaces for sellos. I have had many credencials from different issuing organizations...

    Taxis

About 10 euro for 10 km is pretty normal in most areas.

    Taxis and Ubers

Yes...there are a couple of places..but not many. We were always able to find a local taxi that filled in. In small towns the best source of Taxi info is usually the bar.

    Taxis and Ubers

Most of the Camino Frances is very well covered by inexpensive local bus service. On several of our caminos my wife had some physical problems that prevented her from walking distances every day. She was always able to take a local bus to our stopping point that day and I would walk to meet...

Pilgrim House - 10th birthday party on Tuesday, July 23, 2024!

Congratulations Faith!! I highly recommend that anyone on their way to Santiago...put the (free) Pilgrim House Welcome Center on the top of the list to visit. Perfect place to rest and think back on your adventure.

Will the Protest Against Tourists in Barcelona Come to Santiago?

A bit off topic for most folks....but....@falcon269...is that really you? If so, it is great to see you here again! A lot has changed both here and on the Camino.

    Low-hanging fruit

Consider that if even half of the several hundred thousand pilgrims all just took a little.... The same math applies to those who complain that many bars now forbid or charge non customers from using the toilet facilities. The toilet paper alone would be a huge expense. You also...

    Food on less traveled Caminos

Great thread with excellent suggestions. I suggest that newer pilgrims take a few notes.

Backpack transfer to a place I’m not staying

It seems to me that the practice of asking an albergue to handle your "luggage" (pack?) for you when you are not stayng there is seriously a breach of ethics....despite some claiming that it is common. It falls in the same catagory as those who book several albergues for a night and then just...

Gronze FORUM (not website) is closing!

I have participated in the Gronze Forum for more than a year. It is a very good group with viewpoints from a Spanish look. The Spanish language (translation available) gives a very different slant to the Camino. Very little concern with "luggage" and taxis. The actual reason for the closure...
