The Conques Light Show (the coolest thing I've seen on a Camino)

That's wild that they can be so exact on the different colors. What do they use to do that? Is it a sort of slide show with detailed colors which are projected and matched up on the figures?

Packing for my 2nd Camino: What changed in my gear list

Thanks for the insight. Just to be clear on footwear-- Are you saying your "three pairs of shoes" are: -an everyday walker -sandals -flip flops ? Did you wear socks with your sandals?

Three extra days in Spain - Recommendations?

I second Montserrat. One of the most amazing places we've ever been. Easy train from Barcelona and back. Ride up the cable car. Use the funicular. Walk the trails. Fantastic. Also-- did you spend enough time in Barcelona on the way in? Be sure of your actual travel time spent. Santiago to...

Am I being too greedy or ambitious? Le Puy AND start in Geneva?

I haven't done it, though earlier this year was planning on doing Geneva ----> as well. Consequently, I looked into it quite a bit but ended up changing and will therefore leave the comments to others-- except to wish you well and to mention that Efren did Geneva to Le Puy and Le Puy to SJ. I...

Chemín de Puy - Finally Here!

    Prayers for you, brother. 🙏

Change of route: Pamplona to Logrono, from original SJPDP to Pamplona

Very happy for you!. Have a safe, healthy and wonderful trip.

Accommodation near the airport in Madrid?

We usually stay at the Villa Barajas, which is a Best Western, modest and usually reasonable, because we like to go to mass at nearby Our Lady of Loreto. This gives us a good nights rest after so much traveling. But for some reason, the price is almost 3x normal right now-- don't know why...

    Spanish railway map, simplified...

This is really nice and helpful. I think I'll print it and laminate it. I am specifically NOT showing this to my buddy, though, because it will push him to plan his complete Spain rail idea and I have agreed to join him if he ever really commits. :D

    Pilgrimage in the US?

I ended up buying this book because as a Californian who loves going to the missions I was very curious how this walk was laid out. I knew beforehand that any such plan is not really workable, but after reading it I really have to say that any attempt at walking this is foolhardy, dangerous...

Change of route: Pamplona to Logrono, from original SJPDP to Pamplona

Sounds like a great time. Just make sure your D2 fits together correctly and confirm the bus departure-- and that the hours available to spend in St Jean are worth doing it that way. If the bus and time schedule end up not working, you can always spend the $ to do a car hire SJ to Pamplona...

    Pilgrimage in the US?

We were regular mass goers at one of the missions for a couple decades and have been to all the California Missions. It's simply not practical to try to walk to all of those. Understand that many of them were the beginnings of a future big city, and you'd be walking through miles and miles of...

Change of route: Pamplona to Logrono, from original SJPDP to Pamplona

I was thinking Zubiri would be the problem more so than getting up to Roncevalles. I'm a life long hiker so I sometimes don't think about what things are like for others unless I am walking with them. This thread got me thinking and it's something for our OP to consider...

Change of route: Pamplona to Logrono, from original SJPDP to Pamplona

I agree with the others-- If you gave me the choice, I would easily say Plan B. And I love the idea for you to slow it down before Logrono. You could mix and match many places for a slow down between Los Arcos and Logrono, and with an earlier entry to Logrono you've set yourself up for a...

Change of route: Pamplona to Logrono, from original SJPDP to Pamplona

The already-purchased flight from Bilbao makes it easier on the Logrono part. There are direct trains and buses from Logrono to Bilbao. Also from Pamplona to Bilbao, if slightly longer. So that part is set whichever starting point you choose. You could take a one-way from CDG to MAD then a...

Change of route: Pamplona to Logrono, from original SJPDP to Pamplona

(chuckle) How is that ^^^ different from this: "Original plan was SJPDP to Pamplona" ??? It's the same issue. Does getting from Pamplona to Paris produce similar incredulity? No one bats an eye when people go from Pamplona to SJPdP. Does something change going the other way? Do those...

    Abandoned elderly pilgrims

It is much harder than people would imagine. It can even be painful because you are altering your own normal stride among various other things. But it goes back to communication and intention. Communication ---before and during the Camino-- between group members is key to the entire thing...

    Camino Portugués Central Way

If you only have time for 8 or 9 days walking but can't physically do Porto -->Santiago in under 10 then a good idea is to take the train from Porto to Barcelos and start there. Then use the above Gronze stages but consider splitting the stage between Barcelos-Ponte De Lima into two.

Change of route: Pamplona to Logrono, from original SJPDP to Pamplona

Assuming your intention is to do the CF in sections, it makes perfect sense. The travel to/from is not super easy but is manageable, the walks are interesting and enjoyable and will be bookended by two nice places to visit.

    Abandoned elderly pilgrims

Depends on the person(s). I know seniors who have a complete overestimation of their physical ability and a complete underestimation of their irascibility, who, if on the Camino, would bark for whoever was with them to go on ahead. I know adults who wouldn't give a second thought at dropping...

Saint Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles, leaving in the afternoon

How many of these do they create?
