Can I Walk the Camino Without a Smartphone?

You don't need a smart phone to register for a Compostela! You can register in advance on a a smartphone and will then be allocated a timeslot, however, this is not a requirement You can just turn up and register on the screens available at the Pilgrim's Office. This can mean popping back for...

Can I Walk the Camino Without a Smartphone?

I take it, but only use it when absolutely necessary - it's pretty much a camera with a phone available for emergencies. I usually call accommodations direct (phone numbers in my Brierley) if I want/need to reserve. It's got all my travel insurance, boarding cards etc on it when/if needed. I...

What would you tell a new pilgrim NOT to do ?

Sorry, but your wrong about Compeed. It is absolutely meant to be used on blisters, just make sure they are 'open'. (At least, that's what Copeed's website says . . ) I've used and seen them used successfully in this way on many Caminos) It is not designed to be used as a preventative (we've...

    Is this crazy?

After my first Camino, I aways take one of those 'camping' synthetic sink plugs and a collapsible mug. Don't get too hung up on backpack weight (within reason). If it worked on your training walks, it's the 'right' weight for you. Go at your own pace; take a break when you need to, walk as far...

Camino Portugues + Finisterre/ Muxia in 2 weeks advice

Sounds a good choice ( just be aware that your Day 1 from Ponte de Lima has a big hill before you get to Rubiães though - I've managed it twice though, and I'm seriously old!) Have a great time! Buen Camino Ps Casa Rural São Sesbastião is a great accommodation option in Rubiães (there's an...

    Traveling with a cello

I walked to Finisterre last year and met with a Israeli guy who was traveling with a Turkish lute. He used baggage transfer for his 'normal' gear but carried his lute in a case with shoulder straps. A real character, and very popular addition to the evening's entertainment . .

Camino Portugues + Finisterre/ Muxia in 2 weeks advice

I use 'Camino Ninja' . It's free and very good. Lists distances between places with cafes and accommodations including contact details and guide prices. Also tracks where you are on the trail in a 'live' map view ( for those times when you think it's been a while since you've seen your last...

Camino Portugues + Finisterre/ Muxia in 2 weeks advice

The Central has much more of a 'pilgrim vibe' and you won't be competing with day-trippers spending a day at the coast. I'd go Porto to Vila da Conde on the Camino Literal ( beautiful walk along the river Douro/coast) then head inland to Rates and pick up the Central Route. If you have the time...

    Camino by skateboard?

I'm planning on doing the Camino on a unicycle wearing oversized checked trousers and sporting a rotating bow tie. I hope to convince other pilgrims to throw buckets of confetti at me at the tops of difficult gradients. I will try to repel them by squirting water from my buttonhole flower . . ...

What’s the queue time for the Compostela in Santiago?

Depends on the time of day. I went a few weeks ago around 7pm and went straight to desk . . . No queue at all. . Very happy boy 🙂

    Which Camino Next?

I knew that; just trying to brighten the Forum with a little humour - hence the laughing emoji on my original comment . 🤣🤣🤣🙃

    Which Camino Next?

Hi all, just thought I'd throw this thread into the mix. I can't make my mind up which Camino to plan for next year ( its never too early to start planning!) In the past I've walked from SJPdP to Santiago on the Frances, Roncenvalles to Burgos on the Frances. Matsahinos to Santiago twice on the...

    most scenic section appox 50-75km

If you're not bothered about ending in Santiago, why not start in Santiago and walk to Finisterre - really pretty, and you get to arrive at an historical 'endpoint'. Think it's around the 70km mark . .

    The Pilgrim Passport stamps

👍 but only if you're in Spain 😉

    The Pilgrim Passport stamps

As said above, lots of places provide stamps. I tend to get them whenever I stop for a coffee/Aquarius/vino etc. Your Credencial can then be 'topped up' with stamps from places of more significance if you choose, without any of the 'I need another stamp today' concerns. I sort of work on the...

    private albergues cancelling reservations

Some photos of the lounge area of the 'dodgy' albergue Miras. How I coped, I just don't know! 😉

    The Way, My Way

I sort of got that; it was my attempt at humour. Welcome to the forum. Have fun planning for Camino
