Common Question: Days to walk SJPP to Santiago

In 2013 at the age of 76, I did my first Camino Frances from SJPP to SDC in 32 days with 1 rest day and then 3 days to Muxia and 1 more to Finisterre. In 2015, at 78, it was 37 days with 2 rest days. And, in 2019, at the ripe, old age of 82, it only took me 32 days - Lol! and that was after...

Next stop after Sauges - route options

I did the Le Puy route beginning in May. This may be a little longer than you would like to walk as we are all so different but being 82 I didn't have any problem with it. The place we stopped was in La Roche, 25km, and called La Bergerie de Compostelle where we had one of the best dinners and...

    Back home again

This morning as I am reading the forum, your picture appeared and I thought to myself, I know that lady! I first met you in Sahagun where you were one of the hospitaleras. Loved that place! And, then, in Fonfria where you insisted to share one of "those" aperetifs! It did me in! So glad that...

Ok I’ll just say it...bladder leaks

I had to put the smiley face as you made me laugh! There are lots of us who can share your bladder problems, I am sure. At least, I can to some extent! enjoy that Camino!

    Hiking at Night?

My experience of walking during the night came about because 'somebody" decided it would be a beautiful night - full moon - and all that good stuff! Well, off we went - about 5 of us from all over the world - tripping over every tree root that crossed our paths. Never could see the beautiful...

Are you 70+ and still walking Caminos?

Well, this time I am planning on about 80 days so I can take my time and enjoy every minute. For all I know it could be my last one!

Are you 70+ and still walking Caminos?

I walked my first Camino in 2013 with a granddaughter who had just graduated with her Bachelor's in Nursing and at my ripe old age of 75, I figured I was in good hands if anything happened along The Way! She didn't believe in taking a bus or shipping ahead our packs so I trudged along trying to...

    Ugh...decisions

I agree with Maggie V! Go and do the 3 weeks and you can get about half way on the Norte. There are so many people who don't have time to complete a full Camino and come back another year and begin where they left off. I, for one, had to leave my Camino del Norte this year because of illness...

Trip Report: Le Puy to St Jean/Roncesvalles, via Lourdes

i so enjoyed your report and it brought back memories of my Camino in 2015. So much so that I am contemplating doing it again in 2019. Stayed at several of the same Gites mentioned in your article. Can't wait to get the new updates! Thanks for all the info. Will try deviating from my first...

    There ARE coed group showers!

It is basically on the first floor with the showers down below and there is enough windows that one could escape easy enough. And, you are just across the street from the Bar/cafe where you pick up the keys to get in to the alburque.

    There ARE coed group showers!

I remember that place well! At my age, I certainly did not want to jump in the shower when I saw the 4 shower heads! Fortunately, there were only 3 of us there and all women but I made someone sit guard at the door. Guess I just wasn't raised to display the goods! And, yes, it was not the...

    Too old?

I just returned from the Camino Del Norte a bit early due to a gallbladder attack and didn't want to be stranded in Spain due to the fact I do not speak any Spanish. I had just celebrated my 81st birthday that week. This is my 3rd Camino, having done my first at the age of 75 and celebrated...

    Camino del Norte

I'm not quite sure yet but I will probably have on a bright green jacket and carrying a mauve colored Gregory pack. I am supposed to arrive around 8:45 if all goes well. I might be out of there, headed to Irun, before you get there. But, our paths should cross!
