Apparently to this group 60 is the new 40!

Last 4 CFs I found other pilgrims in the airport. Upon landing in Pamplona, we shared a taxi to SJPP. By then it’s after 1500, so I just start walking up the hill, once to Orrison, the other times to Valcarlos. There is always lots of space in the Valcarlos albergue

    Early morning sello in Ferrol

Yes, you can get the stamp at the Parador, which is right on the trail, going to or coming from the starting point.

Ha Ha! I always lose weight. Probably a combination of the vino tinto, 1906 beer and orujo. 😋

    Madrid airport

Good luck with that senior discount card I tried in Santiago bus/train station, and they said I needed to go to a particular bank in town. I did, and arrived 1105. The bank personnel said I was at the right place, but office responsible closed at 1100. Come back tomorrow. I didn’t. Maybe Atocha...

    Good diet post camino

Tom Roth's book, EAT, MOVE, SLEEP will tell you all you need to know. Stay away from the white stuff: bread, fries, sugar, rice, etc. Shop the perimeter of the supermarket for fresh vegies, fruit, meat, fish, whole grain fresh baked goods. Stay out of the middle aisles and don't eat packaged...

And they will put tables together for any size group. No reservations necessary. A few days ago 13 of us came in and sat at a big round table in the front.

That’s why I travel alone, and then invite myself to sit at a table already populated. 😀

    Organizing shared expenses with friends

On Camino, it is vey easy to ask for separate checks if paying by credit card….or otherwise. Waiter will usually just bring a card reader right to the table and get each of you. Did it at San Martin Pinario last night with 13 at the table. About half gave cash. Took about 2 minutes for all to...

    Alternatives to Sarria

I did CF 8x, and I love the part between Sarria and Santiago. No issues with crowds, because the few I encounter, I talk with the people as I pass through. To each his own.

Anything you want for Camino but it doesn't seem to have been invented?

Well, for the hat, just use a very lightweight baseball cap, but pull the hood of your large FrogTogs raincoat over it. The coat also goes around your backpack to keep it and you dry. FrogTogs is cheap and weighs about 150 grams.

The lotion is called Vaseline. Use it 2 or 3 times a day. I don’t get blisterzzzzz

In September 2024 was there a bed crunch on the non Frances Caminos?

No bed crunch for me on del Norte last year starting about 24 Sept, or this year either, starting 23 Sept. Actually many less hikers than last year—-many on this route are not making pilgrimage.

    Route Changes on Norte?

Yes, they have changed the official route in many areas.

    Camino Norte advice

I am on del Norte now with 4 days to Santiago. It is much better marked than last year. Many new arrows. Wise Pilgrim app is more accurate than last year, but still not perfect.

Spend hours in peaceful Alameda Park, ride the Ferris wheel, visit the biggest eucalyptus tree you ever saw, and there are fantastic views of the Cathedral. And walk The Route of Routes.
