    Absolutely terrified to start

Unfortunately, I'm not capable of taking away your fears and worries. There's only one person who can overcome those: the one who's looking at you in the mirror. But, as a famous saying goes: you don't have to oversee the whole staircase, just take the first step... Starting on a Camino won't...

    Backpack transport south of Porto?

I know of 1 company providing backpack transportation on the CP between Lisbon and SdC, but there might be more. https://www.topsantiago.com/

    Ying yang

So true. Although sometimes things turned out to be different from what I assumed... I once met a woman who had low self-esteem and believed that she was not worth it. By unconsciously projecting a negative image, others avoided her. As a result, like a self-fulfilling prophecy, she was...

Sleeping with your partner in the albergue

I agree with Dougfitz on this: I'd like to stay away from replies on this subject, other than it reminds of booking a flight by phone a number of years ago. They'd ask inappropriate questions. "What's your name?" André Walker "Smoking or non-smoking?" Non-smoking please...

61% increase in numbers recorded walking the Invierno

There are a couple of "bypasses" north of the Camino Francés: 1 Via Künig: from Villadangos del Páramo to Ponferrada. Then on the Francés from Ponferrada to Las Herrerías. Via Künig: from Las Herrerías to Lugo. 2 Camino Verde: from Lugo to Meson (which is on the Camino del Norte, shortly...

Rome - Arles - Roncevaux route advice

On the website of the Via Francigena you can find info about accomodations. At least for the part that you'll be walking in reverse in Italy: https://www.viefrancigene.org/en/

    Meindl boots

Hi there, Over the years I've walked on walking shoes and boots from a couple of manufacturers. There are a number of good brands like Hanwag, Lowe, Meindl. So I wouldn't speak badly of one of those: I don't believe in the "there is only one brand that's the absolute best". That having said...

    Food on less traveled Caminos

In addition to the other suggestions: chorizo. The dried ones. They are salty and you can keep them good outside the fridge for a long time.

    Day trip

Unless you're tired of Idaho's beauty and have never seen the ocean, I agree with Trecile. I've walked to Finisterre twice, but if I had to choose, a day in Santiago would give me more joy. The city itself is lovely. Lots of things to do and see (take a tour on top of the cathedral). Even...

    Sanabrés-unusual?

I don't know how much confirmation you need, but here's another one. Walked the Sanabrés in 2018 (end of September) and loved every kilometer/mile of it!

Linking the Norte to the San Salvador

I'm not sure what kind of connection you are looking for. In 2022 I started on the Del Norte, took a left turn in Villaviciosa towards Oviedo. Took a bus from Oviedo to Léon. Walked back to Oviedo (Del Salvador). Walked the Primitivo from Oviedo to Melide. But, as Mananath said: there is a...

Poladura de la Tercia Posada el Embrujo Sun/Mon closure?

No I haven't, but there is also an albergue in Poladura. Could that be an option? https://www.gronze.com/castilla-y-leon/leon/poladura-tercia/albergue-peregrinos-poladura-tercia

Great idea! A topless tapas bar. Could be a big hit. Let me know when you've started one

So true: I've spent a considerable amount of time looking for a topless bar on the Meseta, but never found one.

Finally - real food in Santiago!!!

This leaves me very confused. I must have missed something. At what moment in evolution did tuna fish grow balls?

Finally - real food in Santiago!!!

If God intended us to eat fish, he wouldn't have thrown them in the sea. ;)

    Opposite direction!!

Do not follow the yellow arrows!

    Recent Smelly Pilgrim Test

And the good news is ......... they also have Merino underwear!!! ;)

    First time Camino advice??

Unless your feet smell a lot worse than those of the rest of mankind, I can't imagine why they told you to bring 2 pairs of walking shoes/boots. ;) The others are right: 1 pair of walking shoes/boots and 1 pair of sandals or flipflops will do.
