    Via Ellenica - Summary 🇮🇹

What a great write up of what sounds like a wonderful walk :)

Can the Camino del Norte be as Magical as the Frances and Portuguese Routes for a first timer?

@Peterexpatkiwi idea is an excellent one, and one that I am sure would give your friend a wonderful full Camino experience. Otherwise I think the first two weeks of the Frances from St JPdP is hard to beat.

The case for preserving the descent into Zubiri.

I couldn't agree more, and look forward to reading the screenshots of your book when back on pc. The Camino needs preserving both the good bits and the bad bits, it was never meant to be a walk along a perfectly tarmacked track. It's different if a section becomes practically impassible and...

    Mid March Planning Head Aches

In the spirit of decency I hope you had more than just a pair of rain pants on🤣

LIVE from the Camino Accommodation shortage on the Norte

Well two separate replies. . . Yes some that show full on booking.con may have a bed if you WhatsApp or call them. Remember many places in booking.com you can cancel until the last minute, so obviously people won't want to book all of their beds out on that precarious basis. Then of course...

    Mid March Planning Head Aches

Not to mention that past weather trends are all but worthless in our new warming world.

    Mid March Planning Head Aches

A sleeping bag over a liner, that's a no-brainer. Rain pants for me are pretty pointless, you will overheat and still get wet, especially your feet. Top-half is the most important part to plan for in that scenario. I'm not a poncho fan but that and layers will do the job, just make sure it's a...

    Too hot in August?

Potentially it could rain the whole time, or it could be 35+, it's impossible to tell. On the CF in October we were still getting 35 degree days. It can easily go the other way though, generally the North will be cooler but maybe not as cool as people think.

LIVE from the Camino Accommodation shortage on the Norte

Well if using hotels then you are also in competition with tourists as well as pilgrims (obviously this is not an invite for an argument between the two!). As @Bradypus mentions, it is not just the Camino that is seeing increased people but also Spain as a whole. The Costa Verde as it's known...

    Primitivo accommodation advice

I can't really comment as I don't have any experience of what you refer to as Private Donativo's. My experience is only of volunteer Donativo's run by associations. The one's that are sadly abused by many people who pay the bare minimum or even less when often they could be more generous and act...

    Primitivo accommodation advice

Please be as generous as your budget allows if staying at the Donativo's. Buen Camino

    Primitivo trail conditions in June?

Does this mean you are finding the Norte too busy out of curiosity? And if so is it because of too many pilgrims, or is it more road/traffic than you thought?

What if fatigue is too much?

Well this is very normal and healthy really, because it will mean that you are less likely to go above your limits. But in reality everyone who has been in the same position as you will tell you that you will soon get in to your rhythm, and the path can help take your mind off of the worry. As...

What if fatigue is too much?

Well I think you would need to be cognisant of the possibility of this happening in advance really, because sometimes it is not going to be possible to call a taxi or get a bus at all points along the CF. Sometimes you will have a several km walk to get to a point where you could be met by a...

Is this a thing I can do?

As you say everyone is different, and I guess people's gait dictates how much wear their footwear gets. I also guess everyone's idea of what constitute worn out or needing to be replaced is different also. I hiked in North Face Vectives, and they did suffer quite a bit of wear on the heal and...

Is this a thing I can do?

It would be disappointing if any half decent pair of such footwear couldn't last 800km, unless of course the pair you are starting in are already way past their best. Also changing footwear halfway through unless absolutely necessary could lead to it's own problems.

Lost & Found Lost credential and earrings

I think its generally accepted that the more details someone has on you the easier it is for them to potentially act in a fraudulent manner using that data.

Camino Francés - Pamplona to Burgos?

Realistically you will want to finish in Burgos. Technically you could reach Fromista which probably offers the next easy route back to Madrid, but it will be a stretch. You are best off spending any free time somewhere along the way and enjoying it.

"What a hardcore thru-hiker can learn on the Camino de Santiago"

This is really cool, and the analogies are well represented and you can see where he is coming from. It's a down-to-earth view without letting pre-conceived ideas cloud judgment too much, all from someone you might not expect it from.
