  1. What do you carry?

    What do you carry?

The Stones Precious cargo. One for someone no longer here, one for someone left behind, and one for me. Carried from a beach in Jersey to a mountain somewhere in beautiful Spain.

Paulo Coelho's "The Pilgrimage" to be made into a Netflix movie

Ok maybe to attain enlightenment we actually need to walk back and forth between SJPdP and Rocesvalles for the first week? I'm pretty sure this could be where I went wrong.

    Arrived from Camino Lebaniego (June/24)

Yes, there are bears, and wolves - however in terms of "likely ways to die on a Camino" they wouldn't even make the top 100. This Camino fringes some of the most wonderful wilderness left in Spain and along with some of the most beautiful and spectacular scenery made even more special by the...

Paulo Coelho's "The Pilgrimage" to be made into a Netflix movie

Maybe there were no arrows 🤣

    Camino fatigue?

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/pEfD1thtape7J6No/ Just thought this thread could do with this. For some the Camino is as magic as ever 🙏

    Train cancelled from Bayonne?

Hoping you made it @Pandre2011 🙏 And Buen Camino for your trip!

    Help getting lodging past Sarria

As above. Plus I don't think the municipals take bookings? So turning up at a reasonable time will hopefully secure you a bed.

Comment by 'davejsy' in media 'Villafranca del Bierzo'

Yes a really beautiful walk, and I can only imagine much prettier than the main route which i understand follows the road. You're right though, the initial climb up is very steep. I'm guessing you stayed in Cacabelos the same as us which is about 10k? We also took the off road route from there...

    Camino fatigue?

I somehow blissfully missed this thread until today. It's so sad to read about how so many people who once obviously loved the Camino feel it has lost it's spark for them, and certainly, some of the horror stories are quite sobering of how people have been finding it this year. So I get it. It...

Molinaseca to O Cebreiro stage mess up?

Whatever you choose try to take the higher Pradela variant from Villafrance del B - it's beautiful. If you change your plans then there is a wonderful little Albergue in Pradela which must be a magical place to stay.

A new 3000km circular walking route in Portugal?

https://www.timeout.com/news/the-worlds-longest-circular-walking-route-is-launching-in-this-european-country-053124 I've just read this about this walk currently being developed in Portugal. It will even have it's own passport! I'm guess some of it is going to include some of the existing...

    Via Ellenica (Italy) - Summary

What a great write up of what sounds like a wonderful walk :)

Can the Camino del Norte be as Magical as the Frances and Portuguese Routes for a first timer?

@Peterexpatkiwi idea is an excellent one, and one that I am sure would give your friend a wonderful full Camino experience. Otherwise I think the first two weeks of the Frances from St JPdP is hard to beat.

The case for preserving the descent into Zubiri.

I couldn't agree more, and look forward to reading the screenshots of your book when back on pc. The Camino needs preserving both the good bits and the bad bits, it was never meant to be a walk along a perfectly tarmacked track. It's different if a section becomes practically impassible and...

    Mid March Planning Head Aches

In the spirit of decency I hope you had more than just a pair of rain pants on🤣

LIVE from the Camino Accommodation shortage on the Norte

Well two separate replies. . . Yes some that show full on booking.con may have a bed if you WhatsApp or call them. Remember many places in booking.com you can cancel until the last minute, so obviously people won't want to book all of their beds out on that precarious basis. Then of course...

    Mid March Planning Head Aches

Not to mention that past weather trends are all but worthless in our new warming world.

    Mid March Planning Head Aches

A sleeping bag over a liner, that's a no-brainer. Rain pants for me are pretty pointless, you will overheat and still get wet, especially your feet. Top-half is the most important part to plan for in that scenario. I'm not a poncho fan but that and layers will do the job, just make sure it's a...

    Too hot in August?

Potentially it could rain the whole time, or it could be 35+, it's impossible to tell. On the CF in October we were still getting 35 degree days. It can easily go the other way though, generally the North will be cooler but maybe not as cool as people think.
