Gear for Camino Portuguese from December 13th to January 14th

I'm not sure if it would arrive in time, but you could order the Altus "poncho" from the Camino forum store. It will keep both you and your backpack dry. https://www.santiagodecompostela.me/en-us/products/altus-poncho-atmospheric-j30?_pos=1&_psq=altus+poncho&_ss=e&_v=1.0 @Tincatinker is...

My Take on the Rain Jacket vs Poncho Debate

Don't you have to take off your pack to get your Altus poncho out of it?

My Take on the Rain Jacket vs Poncho Debate

If you need to take off your pack to don rain gear, you have chosen equipment poorly! There is a reason that the Altus poncho is so popular.

Raingear for late August early September

The Altus poncho/raincoat is awesome. Full sleeves and zip front, plus lightweight. You can reserve one at the pilgrim shop in SJPdP or buy one from the forum store. https://www.boutique-du-pelerin.com/en/ https://www.santiagodecompostela.me/en-us/products/altus-poncho-atmospheric-j30

Would it be overkill to bring both a rain jacket and the Altus poncho in Oct/Nov?

I planned to bring both a rain jacket and an Altus poncho, but in my final packing review, I took out the rain jacket for weight and space reasons. I had also packed a Patagonia Houdini jacket for wind, but found it to also be useful for misty / light drizzle conditions. The Houdini is water...

Would it be overkill to bring both a rain jacket and the Altus poncho in Oct/Nov?

One year ago, I would have said that was overkill. After walking in what seemed like endless days of rain ladt fall, we bought ponchos at Decathlon. The rain continue, and the ponchos were a great help. We've upgraded to Altus ponchos for the next camino....

My Take on the Rain Jacket vs Poncho Debate

Just to address a personal pet peeve, the Altus poncho IS NOT A PONCHO! It is a knee length rain jacket that can be expanded to contain a backpack. It opens in the front, you don't have to pull it over your head, you put it on like the rain jacket it is. The poncho designation is strictly a...

Looking for suggestions where to find an Altus poncho - they are sold out everywhree!

I hope the new Altus ponchos that come in the fall are in vibrant, lurid, fluorescent colours!

Rain gear on Ingles in beginning October

If it’s warm, yes, walking in shorts is the best imho. I just finished the portuguese central, we has some very rainy days (and it rains today in Santiago) and walking in my skort and sandals, with my altus poncho, has been ideal.

Would it be overkill to bring both a rain jacket and the Altus poncho in Oct/Nov?

But do you think that you would need both the Altus and another raincoat?

My Take on the Rain Jacket vs Poncho Debate

Not if you have stashed it in a side pocket. Or even better, you can drape the Altus over your backpack and tie the sleeves around your waist. Then you are all set to put your arms in the sleeves, pull on the hood and zip it up when it starts to rain.

    Outer clothing for January Camino

I wear a merino midweight long sleeved zip neck with Duluth Flexpedition pants. I have a light synthetic puffy coat (Thermoball), and light merino gloves, a merino buff, and an ear band. I wear midheight gortex boots. In the evening I have a merino dress and merino tights. I carry an Altus...

    Rain jacket recommendations

I purchase the Altus poncho and used it under heavy rain for many days while waking a Camino. At the end of each day I was completely wet because the tissus used by Altus does not breathe. I am not using it any more and replace it by a breathable rain jacket.

    Questions about the Altus

Hi, just reading up about the Altus poncho … is it 100% absolutely waterproof in heavy, even torrential rain? I am looking to buy a new rain jacket or poncho for my next Camino in March/April 2025. There is a new version which I see on Ivan’s site, however the one review states it did not keep...

Looking for suggestions where to find an Altus poncho - they are sold out everywhree!

I wish I’d taken a rain jacket instead of a poncho. Because you can use a rain jacket as a windbreaker you get so much more use out of it. I had to buy one anyway in the end and barely used by (heavy) Altus poncho

Would it be overkill to bring both a rain jacket and the Altus poncho in Oct/Nov?

I have had both a rain coat and an Altus Poncho. As long as it isn't raining a lot, the jacket with pack cover is OK. Last winter though it rained on me almost every day for a long portion of the day. I was glad to have my Altus Poncho with a synthetic puffer jacket underneath. I won't go back...
