    Breakfast

I always being a small jar of peanut butter with me. It has protein, fat & sugar (I like Jif, not natural but more stable, not liquid & better preserved). So many people are jealous when they see it! A few spoonfuls & an apple (tough), & granola/protein bar (I bring my own food anyway as celiac)...

    Santiago (Almond) Cake

I have my own version as I don’t want to grind the almonds. I am celiac & works well using almond flour.

Best week or two weeks on the Frances?

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to walk on a scenic trip! Forget the comments about “why are you walking”. Beauty is enough. The last stretch from Sarría has lovely scenery, lots of pilgrims to chat, & fun towns & cafés. Enjoy!

    Happy Shavuot!!!

Shalom! Blessings to you on your pilgrimage. Hi from Canada!

standard of living/quality of life in Spain

Hi, to clarify, I meant “house” not “home”. According to the European Commission website, 35% of Europeans in May 2021 lived in detached houses. I just don’t know any except 1. Wikipedia says 33.3% (2015).

standard of living/quality of life in Spain

In the US (and Canada, because we are so influenced by the US), we grow up with an expectation of having a house and car, and all the luxuries on TV like Starbucks and Air Jordans. Like, the influence is so strong that we simply expect to have it, live in a big five bedroom house with a big...

    25 km per day?

I would not want to do 25k/day. I did the last 100 (was actually 120km). My sister & I spread it over 12 days! Had a place with a pool for 2 nights & did yoga at another. We slept in & because we booked ahead, didn’t have to rush. I will do another 120k this summer, same way.

    Spanish courses in Spain; Recommendations?

Hola! I have researched this to death! I have taken Spanish 2 weeks in Antigua, Guatemala (booked my own accommodation), a week in Cartagena, Colombia (homestay then moved to an apartment: nice lady great meals but no hot water & got locked out when I went out late), a week in Puerto Vallarta...

Which route for a short Camino trip (up to 2 weeks) in November

Hello I also had limited time & did the last 100 from Sarria in June (took 10 days because of health issues). No regrets at all starting at the “end”! It was a great way to do a first Camino & so many accommodation options, I’d be less concerned in winter. I am looking forward to doing the whole...

My experience using booking agency for accommodation & bag transport

Very brave of you to do 6 weeks your first time!

My experience using booking agency for accommodation & bag transport

Yes, I found I used all 3 at first, then maybe 1, then just glanced toward the end. I did appreciate SW’s dossier at the beginning as I just tucked the paper in my pocket.😁

My experience using booking agency for accommodation & bag transport

You are both right. I should have been more patient, called SW before taking a taxi, & asked how much it would be. I was tired that day🤷‍♀️

My experience using booking agency for accommodation & bag transport

Oh my gosh, well said, & thank you! You mentioned alot of why I used a company for my first time. I must say I was pretty happy with SW. I basically told them I didn’t want to do any more than about 12 K a day. It was more like 16 to 18, and I was OK with that, but that was my limit. I checked...

My experience using booking agency for accommodation & bag transport

Hi, I agree Castilian Spanish is not always the local lingo but have found it to be the lingua franca among my friends from Bilbao, Santiago & Valencia! I would I guess use an agency again, as I do a travel agent at home, because when things do go wrong, you have somebody else whose job it is...

My experience using booking agency for accommodation & bag transport

Why does it have to be either/or? It’s not like anyone doing any Camino these days is walking in homemade cowhide sandals & scratchy woolen frocks carrying a handkerchief of bread tied with twine like 500 years ago. They have Tevas or Adidas & high-tech Goretex backpacks, no?

My experience using booking agency for accommodation & bag transport

My sister & I paid $1200usd each for 7 days bag transfer, 9 nights moderate hotels which included most dinners & breakfasts, & medical insurance.

My experience using booking agency for accommodation & bag transport

I don’t recall saying that I expected air conditioning. I mentioned it for those who are interested.

My experience using booking agency for accommodation & bag transport

Actually I never demanded that. It was a suggestion.

My experience using booking agency for accommodation & bag transport

You are very welcome😁. I was about to leave this forum completely today and forget doing the Coastal route because I was so hurt by some sarcastic & judgmental responses. On the date that Mr Brierley’s family posted of his passing, having bought one of his helpful guides, I was struck by their...
