Acknowledging that the purpose of pilgrimage to SDC has changed

I don't believe our reasons for walking today are any different from the past. In medieval times, people walked for religious regions, for personal reasons, and for a travel adventure. Same as today. 🤷🏻‍♂️

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

I've completed two Caminos, the second one I didn't feel the need to get a credentiale. I'm not religious, I wanted to go on a long scenic and historical walk with a good infrastructure in place. Most people walking the Camino are there because for this reason. It's an exciting adventure. I...

Totally get it, we all approach things differently. My memory is bad, so I need to take plenty of photos. 🙂

My Camera -and our love/hate relationship

    I had a Meike 35mm f1.4 prime and the kit 50-250mm.

My Camera -and our love/hate relationship

Nikon Z50 is the perfect little travel camera. I took mine in 2022 for the entire Frances. I recently returned from my second Camino where I took a Nikon Z9 with 24-70mm lens and a couple of primes. No regrets, now I have amazing images to remember the trips by. You can get a quick release clip...

what Camera option are people using

I don't think it's a matter of making time. I had my camera in my hand all the time, and shot continuously and instinctively as I walked.

what Camera option are people using

I took a Z50 on my full Camino frnces and it proved to be the perfect camera. It's small and light, and the kit lens, despite being a little plasticky and fragile, produces wonderful results. Way better than a phone. I took a metal manual focus lens with mine, giving me a 50mm full frame...

Pillow - bring one or is it provided?

If a pillow was provided we wouldn't need to do this. 🤷🏻‍♂️

what Camera option are people using

Phones are great for nice holiday snaps, but not if you're serious about your photography. Phones have such tiny sensors, even the best AI inside them can't handle the limitations for things like low light shooting. You can't blow up photos shot on phones to large prints, or manipulate the...

what Camera option are people using

I've been using GoPros for years, I take them everywhere with me, including the Camino twice now. I use them to make vlogs, but they have limited use. They're rubbish for photos. You'd get better results from a newer phone camera. Ideally though, if quality photos are important to you, a small...

what Camera option are people using

You may need a more than a few rolls of film! Q3 is the way to go, I wish I had space to have taken my Q2M last month, but I was at full capacity.

A call for regulation or permit on the Francés

You are correct, the Camino is great tourist income. A small hotel selling private rooms for 100 euros a night and then dinner and breakfast on top of that, well, it's a great business. The reasons why people to choose to walk the Camino are only important to the individual pilgrims, not the...

    Is the Camino too crowded?

The first thing I wonder is what is the experience you're hoping for? What is that experience based on? If it's solitude you're looking for, there is still opportunity on The Frances, with the exception of the last 100+kms from Sarria. My thought is to avoid the stress of racing each day to...

Backpack is 2 kg too heavy TwT

Rucking is not something you want to do on a Camino if you haven't done it before.

Am I the only one perplexed by WhatsApp?

Buy a Spanish SIM card, they are very cheap.

    Pilgrimage or vacation?

No not you, the person I responded to. Maybe re-read to original post. It's not about you.

    Did it make a difference

No. But it was a lovely walk, and I want to go back as often as I can. It didn't change anything in my life, it was just a nice break from the daily rat race, and made me wish I could spend more time in nature and surrounded by a slower simpler lifestyle.

    Pilgrimage or vacation?

What's not nice are obnoxious attitudes towards those who walk a Camino for different reasons than yourself.
