Getting ready to make a batch of Caldo Gallego

Not today but often! I use white beans or great northern beans if I can find them. I find they keep their shape better than white or navy beans. Collard greens are often hard to find so I use kale. This is a wonderful dish for a cold day here in Northern BC Canada but today I have a big pot of...

LIVE from the Camino Héctor Walks His Way-Week 3

Hector I am enjoying your posts and they bring back so many memories of my first Camino, at this time of the year in 2015. The municipal albergue in Burgos is large and not terribly warm but very clean and in a convenient location. I remember sleeping very well there! Enjoy your day off if you...

4th Camino Experience (with some photos)

Your pictures are gorgeous. I also thought one pilgrimage would be enough, which seems a funny notion after doing several and planning the next....

    Wasp swarm

Tired and feeling vulnerable ... kind of like pilgrims?

LIVE from the Camino Sarria to Santiago winter Camino

This is off topic but I can't find the post where you talked about travelling to Alaska this summer! We live in Dawson Creek BC, mile zero of the Alaska Highway and would love to meet you as you pass through our small city. I am also a retired nurse/nurse educator.

The dreaded plantar fasciitis - just as I’m about to start…

I treated PF with a Strassburg sock at night. This was the first thing that worked for me after many months of pain.

    Strangest Thing on Your Camino?

I wonder if it was an emotional support animal or dinner!

    My only regret walking

I was about to suggest the same thing. My nearest chapter of the Canadian Company of Pilgrims is 600 km away in Edmonton, Alberta. I am fortunate that it is an easy journey and I have planned a trip to coincide with the fall meeting next week. I always say I had to join this group because I was...

The Camino - such an emotional experience!

I very much enjoyed reading what you have written here and I have had the experience of emotions being very "close to the surface" during my caminos. From elation to great sadness and grief, they are all there. I have always thought the outward expression of these emotions is somehow more likely...

Polling Fellow Walkers - Start in SJPP or Pamplona?

Not to be overly sensitive but there are plenty of people over 60 -including me- who walked from SJPDP and had a wonderful time! And I saw lots of people under 60 who struggled. I would not have wanted to miss the Pyrenees nor the night in Orrison.

Differences between the Frances and the Portugues?

I see you are from Alberta and I happen to be in Edmonton this week. My last stop on Saturday morning as I leave town on the way home to BC will be at one of the Portuguese bakeries on the north side! Six of these tarts are required to enter the house when I get home. 😆

    Camino Francés May 2022

Not far at all! We live in Dawson Creek.

    Camino Francés May 2022

What a lovely dog! If you haven't already done so I recommend joining the Canadian Company of Pilgrims. And if you are near Edmonton or Calgary there are local chapters. This organization has many resources including a CCoP pilgrim passport. I live in Northern BC, about 600 km from Edmonton but...

Have you chosen which route you will be taking?

LIVE from the Camino First meal in Spain

Thank you so much for all your posts from the Camino. This is the time of year that my husband and I have done all our pilgrimages and I am feeling very nostalgic for the way. Time for all the fall garden cleanup here in northern British Columbia as well as Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend...

Greetings. First camino, Aragones to SdeC starting Oct 5!

Welcome and it was so good to see you on Zoom this morning! I hope you find this a helpful and supportive group. As you can tell, there is a wealth of knowledge and there are strong opinions which we don't hesitate to share!

LIVE from the Camino Albertagirl on the Levante

Good luck Albertagirl! Your "determined stubbornness" will serve you well. I am keeping a close eye on the situation in Alberta - I have many friends and family members there - and it is looking quite scary. As a retired nurse I can well imagine what it is like in health care right now. And my...

LIVE from the Camino First meal in Spain

I am so envious! I am very much enjoying your posts. I remember so well the day my husband and I reached the Cruz de Ferro where we left a stone from my mum's garden and said prayers in memory of our parents.
