Just how quiet are the Olvidado and Invierno - May or July?

Hi, I walked the Invierno last May, we only rarely met other pilgrims, sometimes 2 oder 4 per day, on one occasion a larger group of Spanish bicycle-pilgrims (bicygrinos) passing by. But that was about it. You bump into some more when reaching your albergue but this route definitely feels like...

    Clarification on 100km

Frankly, this recurring discussion gives me a headache. All this sidestepping, bus-trecking, excuses to not walk certain stages. Maybe we all should remember what the Camino is and ever was: a pilgrimage, an effort, a challenge, a way to find out about yourself - be it your faith, your...

    What's in bloom in May?

Even in a cool Mid-May in the Galician mountains there were lots of flowers and colours. Here a few impressions from the Invierno: Cistus some gardens Poppies Broom-shrubs everywhere in white and yellow Lavender Calla flowers in a road-ditch and my favourite: Have fun!

    Samos to the Camino Invierno?

If you follow Google Maps, walking is around 30k. Seems it's mostly country-lanes, should be quiet enough in this part of Spain... Around halfway there's a water-reservoir with some accomodation. Or just hit it and walk through. From A Pobra it's a nice walk to Monforte...

German/French documentary about the problems of over-tourism on the Camino

Yes, it’s mentioned that none of his family wants to take over the albergue. Pity.

German/French documentary about the problems of over-tourism on the Camino

There's a new 30-Minute documentary on German/French arts and culture channel "arte" which deals with the ever growing attraction of the Camino and the burden of over-tourism on the inhabitants of Santiago. It follows a group of young pilgrims who went all the way on the Frances and how they...

    Albergues for sale

Sad to see Albergue Juntos in Boadilla on the list. In 2022 I stayed there, when the place was run by a charming Dutch couple who advertised "Best pancakes on the camino" all the way to Boadilla. It was true. The pancakes after communal dinner were superb.

    Taxi from O Cebreiro

You could also check out a different alternative. Walk down to Piedrafita do Cebreiro and catch the Alsa bus to A Coruña. The tiny airport has regular Iberia flights to Madrid mostly cheaper than from SdC. Flew out of there already twice, very nice. Depends a bit on your final destination.

    34 or 38 L pack

I am a total fan of the lightweight Kestrel line, Kyte for woman. Well built and organised, zippered wing pouches on the hip-belt. Quick grip system to take out poles while walking. Did the Frances on the 48 litre Kestrel and bought the 38 as well for other routes.

Camino Portuguese starting in Mid November?

„biblical proportions“ - I‘d say that’s the right attitude for this way. 😄

Starting from Burgos in September - early, mid or late?

I walked from SJPDP in 2022 starting September 4th. That day 700 pilgrims took off over the Pyrenees. More joining in from Pamplona. Start counting…

    Lost items tales

That's what I learned the hard way when I lost my specs on my first Camino: Don't twiddle around with your stuff. Don't just lay it aside. Always put it back in your pack or attach it where it belongs, when you don't need it. And most important: ZIP UP!

Questions about the Camino Invierno for April 2025

We walked in May and sometimes met two or four other pilgrims a day. Only near the river Mino-valley there was a group of Spanish cyclists, but that was about it.

Questions about the Camino Invierno for April 2025

You could also do the first stage to Borrones where there is an nice family run hotel (only place to stay in town). Then it’s about 5k up to Las Medulas the next morning, which gives you a good opportunity to walk up to the spectacular Mirador de Orellan viewpoint and into the Roman tunnels...

    Lost items tales

On my first Camino my prescription glasses slipped out of my backpack while I was wearing my optical sunglasses. At my next stop in Los Arcos I met a nice Polish couple walking the Camino all through Europe since Poland, he with a weak leg and a weak arm after having a stroke 19 years ago. He...

Does a waist strap accessory bag exist?

Tasman Tiger also makes good equipment. Got this years ago in black from an outdoor-store in Germany, cost around 25-30,- Euros. www.bergfreunde.de/tasmanian-tiger-tt-tac-pouch-5-tasche
