Credentials of Confraternity of St James

...might have been better tailored to the specific need if the OP had stated from the start that his/her query was related specifically to a Schengen visa application rather than simply a Compostela and that the Confraternity of St James mentioned in the original post was the South African one...

    Late august 2024, route choices

I would consider how long such a trip would take, and whether you might run afoul of Schengen rules (depending on your passport).

    Norte-San Salvador-Primitivo

Thanks Tom. This is all really useful input for me as I think about my route. I have to keep a close eye on my Schengen days, and I don’t want the stress of time/rushing things. Runs a bit counter to why I love walking Caminos… I’m hoping second half of May might not be too busy on the Norte...

    Norte-San Salvador-Primitivo

I’ve got to do a proper schedule to work out number of days, because of Schengen (*shakes fist*). I think I can manage within my remaining allowance. Not a lot of wiggle room, but I’d have to be prepared to change plans on the hoof if necessary.

    Booking return flights!

It's not a problem!! I'm always booking one way tickets!!

    Booking return flights!

Booked my return flight from the Albergue in Sarria on the CF. 5 days before takeoff. All went well, but I am from a Schengen country. I don't know if this is possible, if you are from abroad.

    Do I take a tent

...the various situations where someone has got away with it (whatever ´it´ is, be it poles in carry on, backpacks in the cabin, overstaying Schengen or camping wild in countries where it is frowned upon if not actually illegal) and coldly and without agenda consider your options, taking both...

Lucca to Rome - a retrospective

Very interesting post. Many thanks. I will be starting the VF from Canterbury at the end of April. I know I cannot - because of Schengen visa 90 day only rules - go all the way to Rome. Will finish it next year. But your post has good info for me then. I speak absolutely zero Italian...

Can I do the camino at 16

I think you've thought through a lot already and you are still researching; that's great. I'm a bit concerned about the visa thing because I don't remember you explicitly mentioning which passport you will be using, American or Indian. Those traveling with an Indian passport have to apply for a...

Can I do the camino at 16

...you later about the details if that's okay. My understanding so far is that if my passport is valid for 6 months I can travel into the Schengen area without needing to arrange a visa before, and this applies to minors too. I'll take a letter from my parents and if necessary, maybe get it...

    SJPDP-orisson in the afternoon

Yup which is why I sort of corrected myself further down the line.... ...but I think it matters not.....

    SJPDP-orisson in the afternoon

I'm not sure, but on an EU to EU/Schengen to Schengen flight I don't think that there will be Customs.

Clarification of new entry rules in Oct 24.

The entry / re-entry is Schengen, not Spain, or Portugal. You're planning to spend 70 days in Schengen out of the 90 available to you. You do not have a problem.

Late night taxi from Santiago Airport

Ah unfortunately no. From the UK….will need a stamp.

Late night taxi from Santiago Airport

Where are you flying from? If the last leg is intra-Schengen you should be out fairly quickly, though baggage reclaim can be variable.

    Proof of onward travel

I've followed the discussions on this forum about "return ticket or one-way ticket" for a long time. I know the relevant passages in the EU's Schengen Border Code and the EU's Practical Handbook for Border Guards by heart. Well, not by heart but I can find them online in my sleep. I do not...

    Proof of onward travel

Thinking some more about the "get out of the Schengen zone" ticket if you are really worried about not having one upon entry into Spain you can buy one cheaply. I saw that today Ryanair had a ticket for 25€ and change for a Santiago to Dublin flight. Buy one before leaving home. Once in...

    Proof of onward travel

...Brussels, 28.10.2022 C(2022) 7591 final ANNEX to the Commission Recommendation establishing a common "Practical Handbook for Border Guards (Schengen Handbook)" to be used by Member States' competent authorities when carrying out the border control of persons and replacing Recommendation (C...

New long-term French visa possibility for some UK citizens

Not necessarily political. There must be a lot of people (and businesses) all over the Schengen area that find the system, at least the 90/180 day part of it, doesn´t really work for them. And I´m not talking about expats here.

Who has been on the Camino for more than 12 months? How was it?

...walk in Romania that may take up two months. It has been reported that starting in April time spent there will count against the 90 day Schengen limit. There are bear and wolf warnings for the Transilvanica...
